Assistant Controller

Assistant Controller

The Assistant Controller will manage, supervise, and provide oversight for the accounting and reporting functions of the University and assist the Controller in the day-to-day operation of the Business Office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Accounting & Financial Reporting functions:


  1. Manage execution of the monthly close checklist
  2. Track and review reconciliations
  3. Review journal entries and accounting schedules
  4. Maintain audit documentation and schedules
  5. Ensure subsidiary systems reconcile to the general ledger
  6. Assist auditors in the preparation of the annual 990 tax return, 1098-T, and 1099 Forms.
  7. Assist with the annual audit and preparation of the year-end financial statements.
  8. Develop system-generated financial reports.
  9. Ensure that GAAP requirements are implemented and enforced.
  10. Prepare financial information for annual reports to IPEDS, NCAA, EADA, and various departmental accreditation filings including Middle States.
  11. Assist the COFO and AVP/Controller in the annual budget preparation and provide department heads with monthly budget vs. actual analysis


  1. General Ledger functions:


  1. Co-lead with the AVP/Controller to review the integration of subsidiary systems to Great Plains
  2. Maintain chart of accounts; adding and deleting accounts as appropriate while maintaining reporting integrity along functional category lines.
  3. Open and close fiscal and reporting periods ensuring entries are booked within the proper periods.
  4. Prepare and/or supervise Perkins Loans reconciliations.


  1. Supervision:


  1. Supervise and support the work of the Senior Accountant, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with financial policies and procedures.
  2. All other duties as assigned


Salary Range: $95,000 - $105,000

Qualifications

Experience:

Minimum of three to five years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including at least two years in a supervisory role

Education:

A minimum of a bachelor's degree is required, preferably in accounting. A bachelor's degree in Finance or Business Administration/Management with relevant work experience will also be considered. CPA is desirable, but not required

Must have higher education or non-profit experience

Must have advanced experience in Great Plains Accounting Software

Skills: High analytical skills, ability to multitask, prioritize, organize, and communicate effectively.

System Expert: Proficiency in complex ERP System (Workday, Banner, Great Plains, PeopleSoft, or Oracle)
