Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position requires hands-on involvement in the monthly close cycle, preparation of financial statements, and reconciliation of bank and general ledger accounts and oversight of departmental daily processes. The incumbent will be responsible for managing the Staff Accountant (Equipment), and other direct reports, while also providing administrative and technical supervision of staff personnel.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in general accounting and experience in the construction industry. They must be detail-oriented and capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Controller with the timely and accurate preparation, analysis and presentation of all financial reports, statements and tax return filings on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis, including work-in-progress schedules.
- Assist the Controller preparing percentage of completion financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Manage the Staff Accountant (Equipment) to ensure effective results including but not limited to equipment financing, billing, and reporting.
- Provide direction and assistance to employees related to accounting, billing and payables.
- Recommend policies and procedures relating to financial and business practices of the company as it pertains to general ledger and job cost posting.
- Collaborate and provide support to the team during six month review and annual audit.
- Bank reconciliations.
- Provide financial data to the corporate proposal team as needed.
- Serves as a back up for Monthly/Quarterly sales tax filings and HUT tax returns.
- Serve as a back up to the controller position as it relates to daily cash (monitor daily cash transactions, process wire transfers.)
- Performs accounting responsibilities in accordance with GAAP.
- Special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.S. degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required with a minimum of 5 years Construction experience preferred.
- Incumbent MUST have experience in preparing WIP (Work in Progress) schedules
- Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and experience with internal controls is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) and ability to work with all levels of the organization
- Strong aptitude for research and problem solving
- Ability to work under pressure and consistently achieve required deadlines
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with attention to details and proactive approach
- Ability to work effectively, both independently and as a member of a team
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to “think outside the box” while identifying problems and developing creative solutions.
Reports to: Controller
Location: Farmingdale, NY
Base Salary: $125,000 to $150,000 comensurate with experience
