Assistant Controller
New Jersey Institute for Disabilities (NJID) is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Assistant Controller to join our Nonprofit Agency. The Assistant Controller will support the Controller in managing the accounting operations of NJID, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and regulations as promulgated by GAAP and other funding sources, mainly DOE, DDD and Medicaid.

As the Assistant Controller, you will provide a wide range of support, including:
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual internal financial statements in compliance with funding sources and GAAP
• Maintain the general ledger and oversee accounting staff.
• Prepare the annual budget and biannual financial projections, including Payroll, Operating expenses, and Revenue, supporting schedules for internal and funding sources (DOE, DDD, and County).
• Implement and maintain adequate internal controls to safeguard company assets.
• Coordinate with external auditors during financial audits.
• Oversee accounts payable, receivable, and payroll functions.
• Ensure tax compliance, prepare annual tax return 990
• Supervise, train, and support the accounting staff.
• Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by the Controller
The professional we seek must possess the following:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from a regionally accredited college or university, or
• CPA or CMA certification preferred or in the process of obtaining.
• Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience in diversified industries, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role, with nonprofit experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, including strong use and reliance on Excel and Pivot tables
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
