About the role

We are looking for an Assistant Control Room Operator (ACRO) to join our operations team. The ACRO is a critical member of the plant operating team and serves as the eyes, ears, and primary field connection for the Control Room Operator (CRO).

This role requires a high level of technical knowledge, mechanical ability, sound judgment, leadership, trust, and reliability. The ACRO works closely with the CRO and Shift Supervisor to monitor plant conditions, interact with equipment and employees in the field, respond to operational issues, and ensure the facility operates safely, reliably, and efficiently.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of plant systems and how those systems work together, the ability to identify and respond to abnormal conditions, and the willingness to take ownership and support the broader operations team.

What You’ll Do

• Uphold all company safety, environmental, operating policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Meet and maintain the qualifications established by the Operations Qualification Standard (OQS), including all applicable lower-level requirements.
• Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of plant systems, including what each system does, how it operates, and how systems interact with one another.
• Serve as the primary field resource and communication link for the Control Room Operator.
• Take accurate equipment readings and complete operating logs at required intervals, typically twice per shift.
• Perform equipment pre-start and post-shutdown field walkdowns to verify equipment condition and identify potential issues.
• Respond promptly and safely to plant limiting malfunctions, abnormal operating conditions, and equipment issues.
• Perform assigned operating tasks and work as directed by the Shift Supervisor or Control Room Operator.
• Conduct required weekly and monthly safety, environmental, and operational compliance checks.
• Participate in team safety activities, drills, facility safety evolutions, and emergency response activities.
• Provide assistance and coverage to other watch stations and operational areas as needed.
• Support safe and efficient plant operations during normal operations, startups, shutdowns, outages, and other facility evolutions.
• Communicate equipment conditions, operating concerns, and other relevant information clearly and accurately to the Control Room Operator and Shift Supervisor.
• Maintain a high level of personal accountability, reliability, and professionalism while working independently in the field.
• Assist with training and development of other employees and share operational knowledge with team members.
• Complete required annual retraining and maintain all necessary qualifications.
• Pursue continuous self-improvement and actively develop technical and operational knowledge.
• Demonstrate a reasonable commitment to scheduled and unscheduled overtime, including call-ins, vacation coverage, and outage support.

What You’ll Bring

• Successful completion of the applicable Operations Qualification Standard (OQS) and required lower-level qualifications.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand and troubleshoot industrial equipment and systems.
• Ability to understand complex plant systems and recognize how individual systems affect overall plant operation.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately monitor and document equipment conditions.
• Ability to recognize abnormal equipment conditions and respond appropriately and safely.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate information between the field and Control Room.
• Demonstrated reliability, dependability, and willingness to take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team while also working independently with limited supervision.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to set a positive example for others.
• Willingness and ability to complete required training, qualifications, and annual retraining.
• Ability to work a rotating shift schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible workplace.

By continuously monitoring field conditions, communicating directly with the Control Room, and taking action when equipment or operating conditions change, the ACRO helps ensure the CRO and Shift Supervisor have the information they need to make sound operating decisions.

It is expected that most qualified candidates in this location will fall within the posting range. The final salary offered for this role will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to: experience, education, geographic location, skills and competencies, travel requirements and/or union contracts (if applicable). Pay ranges are reviewed from time to time and may be modified in the future.
