Description
The University of Washington Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine and the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at Seattle Children's Hospital (SCH) have an outstanding opportunity for a full-time pediatric orthopaedic surgeon to specialize in pediatric hand surgery. This position includes an academic appointment in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine at the University of Washington. The appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor rank, dependent upon qualifications and all without tenure (WOT). The majority of School of Medicine faculty hired in the professorial track are hired under the WOT designation. Faculty appointed WOT have the same rights, responsibilities and obligations as tenure-track and tenured faculty members at those ranks. However, faculty appointed as WOT do not hold tenure because all or part of their annual University-administered salary is derived from sources other than regularly appropriated stated funds.
This position will entail developing a practice in treating pediatric hand and upper extremity conditions as well taking general pediatric orthopaedic call at SCH. This is the only program of this nature in the state of Washington. Other responsibilities will include resident and fellow education, medical student teaching, and the development of a busy clinical practice. Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to develop a robust program in clinical, education methodologies or basic science research. The successful candidate will be expected to provide excellent clinical care encompassing a broad spectrum of pediatric hand surgery with a high degree of professionalism and in a collaborative fashion with plastic surgeons, rehabilitation physicians and occupational therapists. There is opportunity for further leadership experience within the division commensurate with experience.
Salary
Overall compensation is a combination of base salary plus other compensation. The base salary range for this position at the Assistant Professor (WOT) rank is $33,334 - $36,139 per month ($400,008 to $433,668 annually), the base salary range for this position at the Associate Professor (WOT) rank is $36,106- $43,502 per month ($433,272 to $522,024 annually) and the base salary range for this position at the Professor (WOT) rank is $43,503 - $46,235 ($522,036-$554,820 annually). Both ranges are commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
This salary is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children's University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by CUMG practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
Other Compensation
Other compensation associated with this position may include Monthly Additional Compensation (MAC) and Semi-Annual Additional Compensation (SAAC) through the CUMG practice plan.
This position has a flexible start date in 2027. Assistant Professors (WOT) are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Associate Professors and Full Professors (WOT) hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.
Qualifications
Applicants must have an MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent), be board certified in orthopaedic surgery and have completed a pediatric orthopaeidic fellowship with additional hand training (or foreign equivalent) or a hand fellowship with an additional pediatric hand fellowship (or foreign equivalent). Applicants must be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Washington. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
