  • Work with Team Leaders to ensure projects comply with contract and financial expectations.
  • Ensure QA/QC, billing, and invoicing compliance for all projects under the company's guidelines.
  • Mentor staff, promoting a culture of development and coaching within the Area.

Position Overview

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering leader to join our firm as Area Manager for Central Indiana based out of our Indianapolis office. The ideal candidate will have a strong background managing projects, technical staff, and business development for a variety of public sector infrastructure projects including Transportation, Structures, Civil/Environmental, MEP and Construction. A deep understanding of the Indiana market and the ability lead multiple teams to meet the Area's goals is crucial for success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manages the business operations for the Area including project performance, sales, and staffing across multiple technical teams and project delivery types.
  • Collaborates with Project Managers, BD and Marketing to identify opportunities and develop pursuit strategies to build client relationships, win projects and team with other firms and sub-consultants.
  • Develops and manages the workload forecast for the Area and ensures that utilization and financial metrics for the Area are achieved.
  • Actively collaborates with other Areas and Regions for work sharing and multi-discipline project pursuits.
  • Works with Team Leaders and Project Managers to ensure that projects meet contract requirements and financial performance goals. Assists with developing corrective action plans as needed.
  • Ensures that QA/QC, billing, and invoicing are done per company guidelines for all projects.
  • Mentors Team Leaders and Project Managers and ensures that appropriate coaching and development activities are taking place for all staff in the Area.
  • Provides input for staff promotions and the annual salary and bonus plans.
  • Participates in professional organizations and events to advance the firm's image and develop relationships with clients, prospects, and partners.
  • Functions as office manager with responsibility for facility maintenance, leases, and local events.


Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline and IN PE license are required.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience managing projects and technical staff for a variety of public sector engineering projects is required.
  • Ability to lead marketing efforts for multiple disciplines and project types throughout the Area.
  • Experience with the planning, design and construction of local roads, water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, drainage, and building projects.
  • Strong experience with project management functions including project scoping, schedule, budget development, and QA/QC.
  • Knowledgeable of the capabilities of engineering design and modeling tools including Excel, ORD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Arc GIS, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HEC-GeoRAS, XP-SWMM.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to make public presentations and lead internal initiatives and staff meetings.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel throughout the area as needed.

  • Starting salary range: $147,472 - $170,040 + annual performance bonus.
