Description

Position Summary:

This position plays a critical role in supporting the development, publication, and interpretation of codes and standards. It requires a high level of technical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the code development process and be adept at managing complex technical projects from inception to completion.

Essential Functions:
  • Project Management & Self-Direction: Independently manage workload to meet strict publication deadlines, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of technical content. May serve as secretariat on codes or standards.
  • Code Development Expertise: Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the codes and standards development process, including code structure and procedural requirements.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with external authors, subject matter experts, and other promulgators to direct, gather, review, and integrate technical content into cohesive work products.
  • Committee Support: Serve as an alternate staff liaison for the Code Action Committee (CAC) and Code Development Committee (CDC), facilitating communication, documentation, and progress tracking.
  • Technical Writing & Review: Author formal code opinions, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with organizational standards and policies.
  • Software Proficiency: Learn to utilize ICC publication software applications such as cdpACCESS and the Code Correlation Tool (CCT) to manage and process code changes and publications.
  • Special Projects: Undertake specialized assignments contributing to strategic initiatives and organizational goals.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned


Requirements

Essential Skills and Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or a related field (ad-vanced degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in code development, technical writing, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of ICC codes and standards development processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently.
  • Experience working with technical committees and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in ICC tools such as cdpACCESS and CCT is highly desirable.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.


Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer or desk
  • Occasional standing, walking, and reaching to access files or office supplies
  • Manual dexterity for typing, filing, and handling office equipment
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds occasionally (e.g., office supplies, documents)
  • Visual acuity to read printed and digital materials
  • Auditory ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone
  • May need to climb stairs in multi-level office building
  • Ability to travel up to 20% annually
