Overview:We are currently seeking an
Application Development Senior Systems Analyst. This is a fully remote role with a one-day onsite training requirement in Frankfort, KY.
Location: Frankfort, KY (remote)
Work Arrangement: Fully Remote
Experience Required: 5+ Years
Job DescriptionAnalyze complex existing applications; reverse-engineer undocumented behavior and dependencies; troubleshoot technical problems; and produce implementation-ready technical designs that development teams can build, test, deploy, and support. Work spans application code, databases, interfaces, background processing, configuration, deployment, testing, and operational support for our client.
Essential CharacteristicsWorking within our client's approved standards, tools, patterns, and security requirements, this role determines how to combine those approved ingredients into a complete, verified, buildable solution for assigned application work. The successful candidate moves from incomplete information to a verified design by inspecting existing implementations, identifying assumptions and gaps, comparing feasible approaches, developing targeted prototypes or automation, documenting decisions, conducting teachbacks, and remaining engaged through implementation validation. Success is measured by whether another qualified team member can build, test, deploy, and support the result without relying on undocumented knowledge held by the analyst.
The initial assignment is to reverse engineer an existing e-Courts application environment and establish a repeatable process for deploying it from a clean database schema into a functioning but transactionally empty system. This includes identifying required schema objects, configuration, reference and bootstrap data, application dependencies, deployment sequence, validation requirements, and appropriate synthetic test-data strategies.
Key Responsibilities- Analyze business and technical requirements with Team Leads, Product Owners, business analysts, developers, and other participants; create and track technical tasks, dependencies, risks, and acceptance criteria in Azure DevOps.
- Inspect source code, databases, configuration, logs, integrations, scheduled processes, deployment assets, and operating environments to reconstruct and document current application behavior.
- Identify undocumented assumptions, dependencies, manual processes, environment differences, data requirements, failure conditions, and operational constraints.
- Produce implementation-ready specifications covering application changes, database changes, interfaces, data flows, background processing, configuration, deployment, security, testing, monitoring, support, recovery, and rollback.
- Analyze database lifecycle requirements, including schema deployment, migrations, reference and configuration data, bootstrap data, transactional data, masking, synthetic data, integrity, and repeatability.
- Analyze integration behavior and define appropriate timeout, retry, concurrency, idempotency, error-handling, reconciliation, logging, and recovery requirements.
- Compare feasible implementation approaches and document consequences, risks, dependencies, and operational costs; provide a supported recommendation to the Application Development Manager.
- Develop targeted prototypes, database scripts, queries, test harnesses, and automation when needed to validate assumptions or demonstrate feasibility.
- Produce system-context and dependency diagrams, data flows, interface contracts, sequence descriptions, acceptance criteria, risk analyses, decision records, and operational runbooks.
- Lead structured discovery sessions and technical teachbacks; challenge unsupported assumptions constructively; and obtain decisions from the appropriate owners.
- Assist Team Leads and Product Owners with technical decomposition, estimation, sequencing, implementation planning, and acceptance.
- Remain engaged through implementation to answer design questions, evaluate deviations, validate completed work, and confirm that the solution can be deployed and supported as intended.
- Use approved AI-assisted engineering tools for source analysis, documentation, prototyping, testing, and traceability while independently validating results and protecting restricted information.
- Trace data lineage and logical relationships across databases, applications, interfaces, stored procedures, views, triggers, scheduled processes, and shared business identifiers, including dependencies not represented by formal database constraints.
- Identify and document environment-specific dependencies and controls, including endpoints, credentials and secrets, certificates, scheduled processing, external integrations, messaging, file locations, and other configuration that must differ between production and non-production environments.
- Validate reconstructed behavior through source inspection, database analysis, logs, execution traces, controlled experiments, prototypes, and comparison with observed system behavior rather than relying solely on existing documentation or stakeholder recollection.
- Apply extensive application and systems-analysis skills with effective written and oral communication, technical documentation, and teachback ability across development, database, infrastructure, security, QA, operations, product, and vendor teams without formal supervisory authority.
- Exercise sound judgment regarding when to analyze, prototype, automate, request a decision, escalate a risk, or stop unsafe work; maintain working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (365), Azure DevOps, and technical diagramming tools.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, software engineering, mathematics, or a related field; or 5+ years of relevant professional experience; or an associate degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field with 2+ years of experience configuring, implementing, analyzing, or troubleshooting enterprise applications in a networked environment.
- Additionally, 5+ years of progressively responsible experience developing, analyzing, designing, integrating, or troubleshooting complex production application systems, including substantial hands-on experience with application code and relational databases. Experience must demonstrate responsibility for independently analyzing existing systems and producing technical designs for implementation by others.
- Progressive experience in application development, systems analysis, data integration, or technical design for complex production systems, including evidence of turning incomplete or undocumented systems into clear, testable, maintainable implementation plans and operating documentation.
Special Requirements- Two or more years of experience configuring, implementing, analyzing, or troubleshooting enterprise applications in a networked environment.
- Strong hands-on experience with C#/.NET, SQL Server and T-SQL, web applications and services, REST APIs, background or scheduled processing, source control, build and release automation, and Windows/IIS-hosted environments, or directly comparable technologies.
- Strong hands-on experience with both legacy and modern Microsoft application environments, including C#/.NET Framework and contemporary .NET, SQL Server and T-SQL, web applications and services, REST and SOAP APIs, background or scheduled processing, source control, build and release automation, and Windows/IIS-hosted environments, or directly comparable technologies.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience modernizing long-lived systems and creating repeatable non-production environments.
- Experience developing synthetic or de-identified test-data strategies.
- Experience supporting regulated or high-availability systems.
- Experience using approved AI-assisted engineering tools.
- Familiarity with systems analysis, application design, ASP.NET Core, Web API, JSON, XML, IIS, Hangfire, Azure DevOps, database schema/migrations, configuration and seed data, dependency mapping, interface contracts, troubleshooting, security, monitoring, and resiliency (keywords may appear naturally across analysis and delivery work).
