What You'll Be Doing
Seeking an Analyst/Associate to support the Houston EIT (Energy, Infrastructure, and Transition) investment banking team focused on the upstream/E&P vertical. The role centers on producing presentation-quality maps, managing geospatial and subsurface data, and maintaining accurate, standardized technical databases for active M&A, A&D, and pitch processes.
Day-to-day responsibilities include, but are not limited to, map creation; georeferencing and digitizing spatial data; joining Excel-based datasets to shapefiles; creating drilling spacing unit (DSU) shapefiles; spotting drilling inventory; grid sampling to points and polygons; performing a multitude of other geospatial analyses; loading well headers, logs, directional surveys, formation tops, and core data into Petra; and creating and populating Spotfire projects with curated datasets.
You will be a critical and integrated member of our investment banking team contributing to advising clients on A&D and M&A transactions, capital raising, and C-suite/board-level presentations.
How You'll Succeed
• Mapping and Spatial Analysis: Develop accurate, consistent, and presentation-ready geospatial analyses and mapping products that support asset evaluation and transaction workflows.
• Technical Data Management: Manage, standardize, quality-check, and integrate geospatial and subsurface data across ArcGIS Pro, Petra, and Spotfire to maintain reliable, deal-ready technical databases.
• Data Quality and Standards: Apply sound judgment and critical thinking to identify data issues, reconcile inconsistencies, and maintain disciplined quality control and standardized mapping practices.
• Transaction Support: Organize and integrate geospatial and technical data into pitch books, confidential information memorandums, virtual data rooms, and broader asset evaluation workflows under tight deadlines.
Who You Are
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Science (GIS) or a related discipline.
• Experience: 5+ years of relevant professional experience, including work with an oil and gas operator and/or an investment bank or A&D advisory firm.
• Technical Capability: Advanced proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, Petra, and Spotfire, with practical experience managing, quality-checking, and loading geospatial and subsurface data.
• Judgment and Execution: Critical thinker with strong attention to detail, prudent data-quality judgment, and the ability to deliver accurate work under tight deadlines.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $115,000-$225,000 for the Houston, Texas market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit's incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
