About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Wealth Underwriter in the Banking, Lending, & Trust's (BL&T) center of excellence within Wealth & Investment Management (WIM). As part of its vision for a flatter, more nimble organization that is easier to do business with, WIM has created horizontal functions known as centers of excellence to support all client coverage channels. BL&T is a center of excellence that brings teams and functions across WIM’s consumer businesses under a common, WIM-level organization.

The Underwriter will be on the Alternative Investments Financing team providing custom credit solutions focused on credit delivery to Private Capital and Hedge Fund Managers, as well as to family offices and Ultra High Net Worth individuals with significant Private Capital and Hedge Fund investment portfolios.   

In this role, you will:

  • Maintain subject matter expertise in the alternatives investment industry, including private equity, private credit, hedge funds, and related fund structures and investment vehicles.
  • Lead the underwriting, financial analysis, and structuring of highly complex custom credit transactions secured by alternative assets, including the evaluation of borrower financial statements, tax returns, fund structures, and collateral arrangements.
  • Analyze sophisticated borrower, guarantor, and collateral profiles, delivering timely and sound credit recommendations while maintaining strong risk discipline.
  • Structure and negotiate customized lending solutions that address clients' unique liquidity and financing needs, clearly communicating recommendations both verbally and in writing.
  • Drive end-to-end execution of complex credit transactions for new and existing client relationships, delivering tailored financing solutions while supporting portfolio quality, revenue growth, and profitability objectives.
  • Proactively monitor and manage a portfolio of credit relationships, identifying emerging risks and opportunities and communicating findings and recommendations to management in a timely manner.
  • Partner with bankers and other client-facing professionals in an advisory capacity, participating in client meetings, credit discussions, and financing negotiations.
  • Collaborate closely with Credit, Independent Risk Management, Legal, Operations, and other key stakeholders to ensure efficient execution and an exceptional client experience.
  • Lead complex transactions and strategic initiatives across a national platform, driving consistency, innovation, and best practices in custom credit delivery.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to team members, fostering professional development and underwriting excellence.
  • Exercise sound judgment and independent decision-making while operating effectively in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.


Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Wealth Underwriting experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education


Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in wealth management, private banking, commercial banking, corporate banking, specialty finance, or structured lending, with a strong foundation in complex credit underwriting and portfolio management.
  • Strong knowledge of alternative investments and related collateral types, including private equity, private credit, hedge funds, limited partnership interests, carried interests and other illiquid or esoteric assets.
  • Comprehensive understanding of financial statement analysis, accounting principles, credit risk assessment, cash flow analysis, loan structuring, and banking products and services.
  • Advanced credit skills, including the ability to analyze, structure, negotiate, and document a broad range of complex lending transactions and customized financing solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent business and credit decisions in complex and ambiguous situations.
  • Experience negotiating and documenting sophisticated credit facilities and legal agreements, including effective collaboration with internal counsel and external legal advisors.
  • Strong understanding of fund structures, partnership agreements, investor considerations, collateral perfection, and lending against alternative investment assets.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders, build credibility, and develop trusted relationships across clients and internal partners.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex transactions simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of execution, responsiveness, and risk management.

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.
