Note: We are currently collecting resumes for this role; active hiring will likely begin in December. Details of role may be revised when hiring begins.
AI Economic Policy Fellow
Blue Rose Research is hiring a Policy Fellow to help design an economic plan for the AI era: a concrete policy agenda for how the country should respond as AI changes jobs, wages, and the economy. The Policy Lead will own the policy substance of the plan. They will identify its key choice points, such as how to support workers whose jobs change, how to share the gains from AI, and how to pay for it, develop realistic options for each, and work through those trade-offs with our research team.
Reporting to the Director of External Affairs, the Policy Lead will work closely with our data scientists and survey researchers. Public opinion research will inform the plan's design, and the plan's options will be specific enough for us to test with voters. This role suits someone with deep economic policy expertise, government experience, and a feel for what is politically possible.
What You'll Do
Policy Design
Lead development of the AI economic plan, from first framework to final proposals
Identify the plan's key choice points and lay out clear, realistic options for each, including trade-offs, costs, and precedents
Draw on existing research and proposals on automation, labor markets, the social safety net, workforce training, tax policy, and competition
Draft policy memos, option papers, and the plan itself
Working with the Research Team
Turn policy options into concrete proposals our research team can test with voters through polling and message testing
Work through the plan's choice points with the research team, and use results to refine the plan based on what is popular, what is persuasive, and what is sound policy
Make sure our survey questions describe policies accurately and compare alternatives fairly, including their costs, eligibility, and timing
Expert & Government Engagement
Consult economists, policy experts, former officials, and current federal and state policymakers to pressure-test ideas
Build and draw on relationships in federal and state government, especially in California, home to much of the AI industry and an early mover on state AI policy
Brief Blue Rose leadership and partners on the plan, its choice points, and the evidence behind our recommendations
