Amazon Leo is looking for an Aerospace Hardware Development Engineers to design and optimize circuitry for satellite systems and develop proof of concept prototypes for next-generation satellite hardware. This role requires close collaboration with radiation, power, mechanical, thermal, RF, and software teams. Responsibilities also include designing automated test systems, test fixtures, and factory tests, as well as leading bring-up and qualification test campaigns.

As an Amazon Leo Aerospace Hardware Engineer you will work with multiple engineering teams across ground and space systems to design, analyze, build, and test hardware assemblies and components for satellite applications. Your focus will be on hardware development from concept through qualification, supporting the introduction of new generations of satellites.

Key job responsibilities
- Design, develop, and validate hardware components, assemblies, and software solutions-from circuit boards and integrated subsystems to onboard power management systems-to determine suitability for flight.
- Develop closed-loop control algorithms leveraging sensor peripherals, microcontrollers, and custom silicon, as well as innovative hardware designs and processes to optimize spacecraft capabilities.
- Implement hardware design strategies to mitigate product risks to stakeholders.
- Work with avionics, payload, radiation, power, mechanical, thermal, RF, and software teams to gather requirements, develop hardware architectures, determine applicable design constraints, and prepare for hardware integration.
- Collaborate with responsible engineers, manufacturing engineers, software developers, tooling teams, and ground support teams to deliver flight-qualified hardware ready for launch and ensure every Leo device shipped meets requirements.
- Communicate fluidly across teams to identify hardware design risks and how they will be addressed to ensure mission success.
- Enable data-driven performance insights through automated test execution, collection, and analysis pipelines, including complex test automation sequences using scripting languages such as Python.
- Work hands-on with hardware test equipment.
- Define and execute software release processes, CI/CD, and quality verification.
- Deliver clear documentation and user-focused software for engineering and manufacturing teams.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related fields
- Must be 18 years of age or older
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related fields
- Experience in hardware design
- Experience with test plan development, building the necessary test bench infrastructure, developing tests and verifying the design
- Knowledge of R, MATLAB, Python or similar scripting language
The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
