Job Description

The Actuary - Pricing role is critical to supporting the actuarial pricing strategy for the Specialty businesses at Argo.  We seek an individual with the ability to provide direction to business partners regarding optimization of the portfolio. This role works independently, problem-solving issues and bringing fresh ideas for improvements to the team. 

This position is a 100% in office role. Candidates must be able to work on-site at a designated company office during standard business hours. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build and maintain predictive models (e.g., GLMs, machine learning) to support pricing strategy, risk selection, and portfolio optimization
  • Work in a team environment with underwriting, claims, financial, IT, and marketing professionals supporting our Specialty lines businesses.
  • Conduct a full range of actuarial and financial analysis to quantify performance.
  • Work closely with business partners and provide direction on ways to improve portfolio performance.
  • Evaluate new business opportunities and/or programs and share recommendations with business partners.
  • Lead loss ratio planning and reforecasting process quarterly, including rate change, loss trend, mix shift, and non-rate actions.
  • Explore new tools to drive efficiencies and refine existing workflows.
  • Create and automate datasets and reports for actuarial analysis.
  • Manage rate filings, where applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Mathematics, Actuarial Science,Computer Science or Finance related.
  • Prefer4+ exams in current pursuit of ACAS or equivalent experience.
  • Required 3+ years predictive modeling experience.
  • Experience with predictive modeling techniques (e.g., GLMs, machine learning) and strong programming skills (SQL, R, Python, or similar).
  • Experience with training AI agents a plus
  • Broad overall knowledge of insurance.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to management and other functional areas.
  • Ability to interact and work within a team environment and approach actuarial work as a collaborative product. 
  • Ability to manage concurrent projects.
  • Polished and professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to quickly evaluate the accuracy of information.
  • Proficient PC skills developed through extensive use of Windows and Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word).
  • Rate filing experience a plus.

The base salary range provided below is for hires in those geographic areas only and will be commensurate with candidate experience. Pay ranges for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location.

This position may be filled at a lower-level depending on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus based on company and individual performance as well as a generous benefits package.

Omaha Pay Range

  • Actuary: $95,000 - $145,000
  • Actuarial Analyst: $74,000 - $106,00

NYC Pay Range

  • Actuary: $113,000 - $165,000
  • Actuarial Analyst: $88,000 - $130,000
