SummaryManages and oversees general accounting activities to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting. Responsible for coordinating month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, maintaining effective internal controls, supporting financial audits, and providing financial analysis to leadership. Partners with operational and business leaders to support decision-making, improve processes, and enhance financial performance. May supervise accounting staff and serve as a subject matter expert for accounting policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
Job Duties & Responsibilities- Manage and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring accuracy and adherence to established deadlines.
- Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation prepared by accounting staff.
- Maintain oversight of general ledger activity and balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring timely identification and resolution of discrepancies.
- Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, forecasts, budgets, and variance analyses to support business decisions.
- Lead accounting support for internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with company policies, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
- Partner with operations and business leaders to provide financial insights, evaluate operational performance, and support strategic initiatives.
- Monitor and implement accounting policies, procedures, and process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.
- Analyze complex financial transactions and provide recommendations on accounting treatment in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
- Support cash management activities, working capital initiatives, and other financial planning efforts as assigned.
- Lead or participate in cross-functional projects, system implementations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Mentor, train, and provide guidance to accounting staff, fostering professional development and ensuring consistent application of accounting practices.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Skills & Knowledge- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial reporting, and internal control concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to manage accounting processes in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to interpret financial results and effectively communicate findings to management.
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, data analysis, and financial modeling.
- Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, accountability, and professional integrity.
- Proven ability to lead projects, influence stakeholders, and drive process improvements.
- Previous experience supervising or mentoring accounting personnel preferred.
Education- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA preferred.
Experience- 7-10 years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of leadership, supervisory, or project leadership experience preferred.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, energy, or multi-site operations preferred.
- Experience with financial audits, month-end close management, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls required.
