Responsibilities This role owns key accounting and reporting activities for the Canadian business, combining hands-on month-end execution with financial analysis, controls, cross-functional support and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will understand both what needs to be done and why, and will independently deliver accurate, timely results in a deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities - Lead the monthly close process for Altec Industries Ltd., including complex journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, prepaids, payroll-related entries, bank and line-of-credit activity, and foreign-exchange transactions.
- Prepare and review internal financial statements, gross-margin reporting, inventory analysis, service results, intercompany reporting, bank reporting, Statistics Canada reporting, and other management and regulatory reports.
- Reconcile balance sheet, bank, and intercompany accounts, including cross-company bank activity, trade balances, chassis costs, and foreign-exchange true-ups; investigate and resolve variances promptly.
- Monitor daily CAD and USD cash positions, expected payment outflows, borrowing availability, and foreign-currency requirements; manage hedging activities and support cash management initiatives to minimize consolidated borrowing balances.
- Oversee accounting for new and used equipment, including job closeout, revenue and cost agreements, unit resourcing, invoice support, pricing accuracy, deferred revenue, prebills, and warranty or service-contract activity.
- Coordinate the divisional budget process and support forecasting, financial planning, and business decision-making.
- Maintain financial systems, internal financial controls, and effective accounting processes; review suspense or invalid-account activity and ensure appropriate review of high-risk transactions.
- Lead regulatory, tax, audit, year-end, bank, and other compliance reporting requirements.
- Identify accounting and operational issues, assess business impact, engage appropriate stakeholders, and drive timely resolution.
- Partner with Sales, Service, Collections, Cash Applications, Shared Services, and U.S. accounting teams to resolve issues, support customer needs, and improve end-to-end business processes.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and development to team members, fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous professional growth; may have direct supervisory responsibility for employees.
Education, Experience, And Skills Required: - High School Diploma or GED AND
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance AND
- 6 years of industry experience OR 4 years total experience with a minimum of two years' experience in public accounting CPA preferred.
Nice to Have: - At least two years of supervisory or team-lead experience, with a demonstrated ability to prioritize work, train others and support accountability.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, internal controls and month-end close; working knowledge of U.S. GAAP is an asset.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with ERP and financial reporting systems; Oracle, OneStream and Alteryx experience are assets.
- Experience with intercompany accounting, foreign currency, cash management, equipment or inventory accounting, Canadian indirect taxes or multi-entity reporting is an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
