Position Summary
The Accounting Manager leads accounting, financial reporting, and control activities supporting Shell Mobility & Convenience operations. The role ensures timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual close execution while maintaining compliance with applicable accounting standards, Shell accounting policies, internal controls, and governance requirements. The position also partners with Finance, Commercial, Operations, Tax, Treasury, and shared-service teams and supports acquisitions, integration activities, process improvement, and finance transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Close & Reporting
Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities for assigned entities and business processes.
Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and financial reporting deliverables.
Coordinate close activities across business, shared-service, and corporate accounting teams.
Analyze financial results, investigate significant movements, and provide clear variance explanations to leadership.
Balance Sheet Integrity & Controls
Own balance sheet governance, account reconciliation quality, and timely certification processes.
Review reconciliations and aging schedules; drive resolution of unreconciled items, aged balances, and accounting anomalies.
Maintain compliance with SOX and internal control requirements and support internal and external audits, as needed
Ensure accounting judgments, key controls, and material adjustments are appropriately documented and approved.
Business & Operational Accounting Support
Collaborate with business partners finance to ensure accurate accounting outcomes
Provide accounting guidance for new business initiatives, commercial arrangements, and contract changes.
Translate operational activity into clear accounting requirements, ownership, and close procedures.
Technical Accounting
Research and document accounting conclusions for complex or non-routine transactions.
Support assessments involving business combinations, purchase accounting, leases, asset retirement obligations, impairments, intercompany transactions, provisions, contingencies, and revenue recognition.
Coordinate with tax, legal, treasury, and external advisers when specialized input is required.
Mergers, Acquisitions & Integration
Support acquisition accounting, Day 1 readiness, opening balance sheet preparation, and purchase price allocation activities.
Assist with working-capital analysis, accounting-policy alignment, and post-close accounting matters.
Participate in integration planning, finance-process design, controls implementation, and system transition activities.
Team Leadership
Lead, coach, and develop accounting professionals while establishing clear priorities, performance expectations, and development plans.
Allocate resources across close, reporting, controls, and project activities and proactively manage delivery risks.
Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and strong financial stewardship.
Process Improvement & Automation
Drive standardization, simplification, automation, and documentation of accounting processes.
Partner with IT teams to improve data quality, reporting efficiency, and control effectiveness.

Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
Progressive accounting or finance experience, including responsibility for financial close, reporting, reconciliations, and controls.
Strong knowledge of IFRS and/or US GAAP and the ability to apply accounting guidance to business transactions.
Demonstrated leadership, analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder-management capabilities.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working with enterprise finance systems.
Preferred
CPA or an equivalent professional accounting qualification.
Experience in retail, convenience, fuel, energy, downstream, or other transaction-intensive businesses.
Experience supporting acquisitions, integrations, purchase accounting, or finance transformation.
Experience operating in a multinational or matrixed organization.
