Position SummaryThe Accounting Manager reports directly to the Controller and helps establish shared accounting services for the mortgage, title, and title insurance businesses. This hands-on role owns assigned close and reporting work, guides accounting staff, and helps build clear, efficient procedures as the team grows.
Key Responsibilities- Lead assigned monthly and quarterly close activities for title and title insurance, including reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, financial statement support, and review of staff work.
- Investigate historical balances, premium and claims activity, cash application, intercompany accounts, and other open items; document conclusions and resolve discrepancies with the Controller.
- Coordinate financial reporting support under GAAP and statutory accounting requirements, including schedules, rollforwards, and audit or regulatory requests, with Controller review.
- Oversee assigned accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash, and general ledger workflows; establish controls, deadlines, and clear handoffs across the shared services team.
- Help the Controller plan and execute the title insurance system conversion, including account mapping, data validation, testing, reconciliations, and documentation.
- Improve and document Alliant processes, then support consistent Golden Dog Title workflows and reporting; identify manual work that can be simplified or automated.
- Coach and review the work of assigned accounting staff, set priorities, and coordinate with operations, treasury, IT, auditors, and business leaders.
- Communicate risks, unresolved items, and practical recommendations to the Controller; take ownership of new assignments in a changing environment.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Progressive accounting experience with month-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting, and review of others' work.
- Strong Excel and accounting systems skills; ability to research discrepancies, organize competing deadlines, and document sound procedures.
- Self-directed, collaborative approach with the judgment to raise issues early and improve processes as responsibilities evolve.
Preferred Qualifications- Title, title insurance, mortgage, or other regulated financial services experience.
- GAAP and statutory accounting background, especially title insurance reporting, is strongly desired but not required.
- System conversion, process redesign, or multi-entity shared services experience.
