Account Executive: This is where you come in.

We're seeking an Account Executive to represent the full breadth of MacDonald-Miller's capabilities, with a strong focus on selling building control systems to architects, MEP consultants, and construction contractors throughout the Portland commercial market.

The ideal candidate brings proven experience developing retrofit and bid proposals, writing specifications, preparing detailed estimates, and developing solutions for building control systems. You'll play a critical role in growing our customer base, developing new business, and ensuring our customers understand the value of partnering with MacDonald-Miller.

  • Build strong relationships with engineers, estimators, project managers, field personnel, customers, and other key stakeholders.
  • Guide and support internal teams throughout the sales and project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams and customers to develop solutions that meet project requirements and customer expectations.

Customer Base
  • Develop, maintain, and strengthen relationships with existing customers.
  • Grow sales volume and profitability while ensuring commitments made to customers can be successfully delivered.
  • Identify, develop, and secure new customer accounts and business opportunities.
  • Become a trusted advisor to customers by understanding their needs and connecting them with the right MacDonald-Miller solutions.

Marketing & Sales
  • Identify, pursue, negotiate, and secure new contracts and sales opportunities.
  • Develop compelling retrofit and bid proposals that clearly communicate the value of our building controls solutions.
  • Work with architects, MEP consultants, contractors, and end users to influence projects and specifications.
  • Promote MacDonald-Miller's value engineering capabilities and comprehensive building solutions.
  • Develop and execute sales strategies to maximize opportunities within the assigned Portland market.

The Account Executive reports to Matt Smart, Building Controls Sales Manager, and is part of a collaborative team supporting the continued growth of our business. This is a highly visible role that interacts with all levels and functions across the organization and requires someone who is a strong relationship builder, exceptional communicator, detail-oriented, and commercially minded.
You Will Be Expected To:
  • Own the sales process from identifying opportunities through proposal development, negotiation, and contract award.
  • Prepare and deliver compelling sales presentations and proposals to both new and existing customers.
  • Develop and execute strategies to grow sales and profitability within the assigned geographic or vertical market.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, architects, engineers, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Partner closely with estimating, engineering, project management, and field teams to ensure proposed solutions are both competitive and deliverable.
  • Identify opportunities to expand MacDonald-Miller's relationship with existing customers and introduce additional capabilities and services.
  • Represent MacDonald-Miller professionally in the Portland commercial market and serve as a knowledgeable resource on building controls solutions.

You should have...
  • A bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • A proven track record of selling, estimating, specifying, or installing building control systems.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in building controls sales or hands-on field experience installing building controls within the Plan & Spec and/or Retrofit market.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and building automation/control systems.
  • Experience developing proposals, estimates, specifications, or other sales materials for building controls projects.
  • A proven ability to negotiate effectively, achieve targeted profit margins, and manage customer commitments.
  • Excellent verbal, written, listening, persuasion, and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build constructive and effective relationships with customers, engineering teams, project managers, office personnel, and field staff.
  • Demonstrated success identifying, developing, pursuing, and securing new business opportunities.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to understand customer needs and translate them into profitable solutions.

Benefits

Compensation: Base salary of $90,000 annually, plus commissions and vehicle compensation.
