SMS Equipment is seeking an experienced Supervisor, Welding to support the safe, efficient, and economical operation of the welding facilities in Timmins. In this role, you will oversee shop and field welding activities that maintain and repair mining equipment, coordinate tradespeople, allocate work, and support employees when complex repair problems are encountered.

Working with tradespeople, customers, management, and other shops, you will schedule daily work, maintain quality and safety standards, resolve service concerns, coach employees, and help ensure welding resources are deployed effectively.

Salary: $115,000 - $125,000Work Arrangement: Fixed On-Site
Schedule: 14 days on / 14 days off

What You'll Do

• Oversee welding shop and field operations, providing direction to a shift crew of approximately 10 or more tradespeople in a growing operation.
• Supervise, coordinate, schedule, and assign work for tradespeople who repair and maintain mining equipment, ensuring effective use of available labour and operational capacity.
• Support tradespeople and other shops in resolving complex repair issues by providing guidance on procedures, techniques, and practical solutions.
• Conduct in-process inspections, evaluate finished work, and take corrective action when quality or performance standards are not met.
• Coach and mentor employees, provide counselling, and use the disciplinary process when required.
• Ensure payroll and human resources policies and procedures are followed, and track and arrange employee training.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment by enforcing procedures, rules, regulations, safe trade practices, and equipment inspection requirements.
• Provide responsive customer service by clarifying concerns, identifying causes, recommending solutions, and following up to confirm resolution.

What You Bring

You are an experienced Red Seal welding professional and supervisor with strong knowledge of mining equipment maintenance and repair. You can coordinate a large shop operation, act as a link between employees and management, make sound decisions, coach employees, and resolve customer service concerns.

Additional qualifications include:

• 5+ years of experience as a qualified welder
• Current CWB certification with knowledge of OH&S legislation and regulations and equipment inspection requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise, coordinate, coach, counsel, and schedule a large trades team.
• Strong organization, initiative, decision-making, communication, and customer service skills.

Nice to Haves:

• Bilingual capability in English and French.
• Experience with quoting, engineering design coordination, fabrication projects, quality control, and work-in-progress management.
