The ideal candidate will have experience in the structural analysis, design, and delivery of water/wastewater facility structures (treatment plants, pump stations, liquid-retaining structures), building-type structures, and related structures for municipal infrastructure projects.

This role offers an opportunity to take ownership of structural design scopes, lead technical tasks, and collaborate across disciplines from project concept through construction. The successful candidate will help lead structural engineering efforts on multidisciplinary projects, develop contract documents, perform condition assessments of existing infrastructure, and provide construction-phase support. This position offers opportunities for technical leadership, client interaction, and mentoring of staff.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Prepare structural design calculations, plans, specifications, and construction documents for water/wastewater municipal projects.
  • Perform quality control (QC) reviews of design deliverables developed by design engineers, drafters and REVIT modelers, ensuring compliance with building codes, environmental concrete standards, and client requirements.
  • Take independent ownership of routine structural design tasks while collaborating with senior engineers on complex or specialized systems.
  • Coordinate structural systems with process, geotechnical, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering disciplines to resolve spatial, loading, and environmental project constraints.
  • Participate in project progress meetings and assist in preparing technical materials.
  • Provide technical support during construction, including review of shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and field observations.
  • Conduct site investigations and condition assessments, forensic evaluations, and structural condition inspections of existing facilities and structures.
  • Develop engineering reports and repair strategies and recommendations for deteriorated environmental structures.
  • Prepare engineering construction cost estimates.
  • Track progress and monitor hours/budgets for assigned structural scope items.
  • Assist in development of project scopes and budgets.
  • Mentor junior engineers through design tasks to support their technical development.
  • Maintain Professional Engineer licensure and pursue ongoing professional development.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 4+ years of structural engineering experience, with a focus on environmental and building-type structures.
  • Proficiency applying building design codes and standards: IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, ACI 350, AISC 360, TMS 402/602.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis and design software (e.g., STAAD.Pro, RISA-3D, RAM).
  • Strong understanding of lateral load paths (wind/seismic) and liquid-retaining concrete design.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and task management skills.

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • 7 years of consulting engineering experience.
  • Experience with treatment plant expansions and structural concrete rehabilitations.
  • Experience with masonry, aluminum, or stainless-steel design.
  • Structural Engineering (SE) license or interest in pursuing.
  • Familiarity with Revit or BIM workflows.
  • Experience assisting with proposals or technical statements of work.
  • Active participation in professional societies (e.g., ASCE, SEI, ACI).
