The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is seeking a Water/Wastewater Engineer to join our Water team in Houston, Texas. This role offers the opportunity to support municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects from planning and design through construction, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and public-sector clients.
Position Summary:
The Water/Wastewater Engineer supports the planning, design, permitting, and construction of municipal water, wastewater, and sanitary sewer infrastructure projects. The role contributes technical expertise to ensure projects are delivered accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
Essential Job Functions:

• Perform engineering design for water-related infrastructure and water resource facilities.
• Conduct site investigations and inspections and prepare detailed assessment reports.
• Prepare design calculations, technical reports, drawings, and specifications.
• Evaluate design alternatives, resolve technical issues, and coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
• Coordinate project activities with clients, subconsultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
• Support project execution from conceptual planning through permitting and development of final plans, specifications, and bid packages.
• Provide technical design support for water distribution systems, water and wastewater treatment facilities, and sanitary sewer collection systems.
• Ensure technical accuracy, adherence to engineering standards, and proper documentation across design deliverables.
• Provide construction phase services, including bid evaluations, plan clarifications, shop drawing reviews, progress report reviews, and change order evaluations.
• Interpret specifications and drawings, recommend design modifications, and coordinate changes with the design team.
• Independently assess engineering problems and recommend solutions to engineering discipline leads while ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and within budget.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant engineering experience.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license in Civil or Environmental Engineering, registered in Texas or ability to obtain Texas licensure within one year.
• Strong communication, technical writing, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Project.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with hydraulic modeling software.
• Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Experience with municipal infrastructure design and permitting.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to perform office-based engineering work with occasional field visits to project sites.
• Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, including occasional work on active construction sites.
• Ability to lift and carry light to moderate equipment or materials as needed.

• Combination of office environment and outdoor field settings.
• Occasional exposure to varying weather conditions during site visits.
• Moderate noise levels may be present during construction-related activities.
