Job Description:The Water Resources Senior Project Engineer will lead the planning, analysis, and design of major water resources infrastructure projects across a broad range of public- and private-sector clients, with emphasis on large-scale hydraulic works including dams and reservoirs, major water transmission systems, large-diameter conveyance infrastructure, water regulation and storage facilities, and regional-scale water treatment systems. This role will work under the direction of the Water Engineering Group Leader and in collaboration with Project Managers, contributing to hydrology and hydraulics analyses, large-scale water transmission and regulation systems, major dam and reservoir studies, potable and wastewater systems, water treatment and surface water modeling efforts for water-related projects across TYPSA US.
Primary Job Duties:
- Technical Engineering Leadership:
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses in support of water resources projects, including dam safety and reservoir routing studies, large-scale surface water modeling, flood control infrastructure design, and major hydraulic system evaluations.
- Lead the planning, analysis, and design of major water conveyance and transmission systems including large-diameter pipelines, aqueducts, open channels, tunnels, pumping stations, and associated hydraulic infrastructure.
- Lead the feasibility study, conceptual design, and detailed engineering of dams, reservoirs, weirs, diversion works, and other large-scale water regulation and storage infrastructure.
- Lead potable water supply, regional-scale water treatment facilities, wastewater treatment systems, water reuse and recycled water projects, and major advanced treatment infrastructure.
- Prepare engineering calculations, technical memoranda, design reports, and supporting documentation.
- Preparation of construction documents, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and quantity take-offs.
- Apply applicable local, state, and federal regulations, codes, and design standards to engineering work.
- Demonstrate initiative, sound engineering judgment, and oversee Project Engineers in a collaborative team-oriented approach.
- Project Support and Delivery:
- Collaborate with Project Managers while independently completing defined design tasks and work packages.
- Take ownership of assigned project tasks, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely completion.
- Lead a team of Project Engineers, providing technical guidance and mentoring so they can complete their project assignments.
- Assist Project Managers with project coordination activities, including schedules, budgets, and internal communication.
- Participate in internal project meetings and coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams.
- Attend and participate in client, agency, and stakeholder meetings as needed.
- Business Development and Strategic Support:
- Provide proposal development, including scope descriptions, technical approaches, and fee support.
- Support marketing pursuits such as SOQs and technical write-ups.
- Contribute to client service efforts and maintain professional relationships with project stakeholders.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication skills when presenting technical information to clients, agencies, and internal teams.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, environmental, construction, and digital services.
- Represent TYPSA in professional organizations, technical committees, and industry events as appropriate.
Job Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills):- Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. A Master's level education or post-graduate study is a plus.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in water-related engineering disciplines, with demonstrated experience in the design and delivery of major hydraulic infrastructure projects (large-scale transmission systems, dams, reservoirs, or regional water treatment facilities)
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license (ability to obtain AZ license by comity in a reasonable timeframe). An active CA license is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience leading large-scale hydraulic infrastructure projects, such as major transmission mains, dam or reservoir design, regional conveyance systems, or large water/wastewater treatment plant projects.
- Experience working with municipal, state, and/or federal agencies.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and engineering judgment skills.
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while collaborating effectively with project teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing and presentations.
- Experience with industry-standard engineering software and modeling tools used in water-related design, including hydraulic simulation platforms (HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, EPANET, SWMM, eInfoWorks, or equivalent), dam break and reservoir routing models, and GIS-based hydrologic analysis tools.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and support projects across different geographic locations.
- Travel required as necessary to support project and client needs.
- Valid Driver's License, with the ability to maintain insurability under the company's insurance carrier.
