Job Summary

The Site Superintendent - Sewer and Water oversees the day-to-day operations of sewer, water, and earthworks projects. This role is responsible for allocating resources, equipment, and subcontractors, while monitoring work to ensure compliance with contract specifications, schedules, and company standards. The Superintendent's primary objective is to deliver projects safely, on time, on budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Job Description

Leadership & Supervision
  • Supervise and direct water and sewer projects in compliance with contract documents and company procedures.
  • Lead and support crews, operators, and subcontractors to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality work.
  • Monitor progress and adjust work plans to meet project milestones and deadlines.

Project Execution
  • Oversee installation of underground utilities including water, sanitary, and storm systems in accordance with design drawings, specifications, and regulatory standards.
  • Direct and coordinate crews in trenching, pipe laying, bedding, backfilling, and compaction operations.
  • Ensure proper alignment, elevation, and testing of pipe systems, fittings, and service connections.
  • Coordinate with inspectors and engineers for testing, tie-ins, and approvals.
  • Manage dewatering, shoring, and excavation safety measures in compliance with site conditions and Yukon regulations.
  • Plan and schedule equipment and material deliveries to maintain production efficiency and meet project milestones.
  • Supervise subcontractors performing related work such as tie-ins, asphalt restoration, and concrete structures (manholes, catch basins, valve chambers).
  • Verify work quality, trench compaction, and pipe installation meet specifications before backfill and surface restoration.

Safety Management
  • Enforce company and regulatory safety requirements for all workers and subcontractors.
  • Lead daily Tailgate Talks and ensure Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) are completed and followed.
  • Proactively identify and address potential hazards on site.

Planning & Coordination
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to develop and implement construction schedules.
  • Confirm availability of manpower, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to maintain schedule progress.
  • Coordinate daily operations to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.

Documentation & Reporting
  • Complete daily journals, safety documentation, and equipment/maintenance records as required.
  • Track and report on manpower, equipment use, materials, and subcontractor performance.
  • Maintain accurate communication with the Project Manager regarding progress, issues, and risks.


Qualifications
  • 3+ years as a Site Superintendent, or an accomplished Senior Foreman looking to advance into a Site Superintendent role.
  • Proficient in verbal and written English, able to provide clear direction and maintain professional communication.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to engage, motivate, and manage crews and subcontractors.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and contracts, identifying scope gaps or additional work.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Competent in computer skills for daily reports, logs, and safety documentation.
  • Commitment to leading a safety-first worksite.
