Position SummaryThe Vice President of Strategy provides enterprise leadership for the development, implementation, monitoring, and continuous refinement of Methodist Healthcare Ministries' multi-year strategy. The position translates organizational priorities into actionable plans, performance measures, and decision-support processes that enable leadership and the Board of Directors to assess progress, allocate resources, and advance MHM's Mission, Vision, Core Values, and long-term strategic direction.
Scope and Impact- Provides leadership for enterprise strategic planning across MHM's 74-county service area and coordinates the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of strategic initiatives across the organization.
- Collaborates across departments and with executive leadership to align organizational priorities, operational plans, performance measures, financial considerations, and resources with MHM's strategic direction.
- Develops and manages department's operating budget and directly supervises assigned team members.
- Provides strategic analysis, reporting, forecasting, and recommendations that support executive leadership and Board-level decision-making.
Decision-Making Authority- Operates with a high degree of independence and professional judgment in leading MHM's strategic planning processes, establishing planning methodologies and performance-monitoring approaches, conducting strategic analyses, and recommending organizational priorities and actions.
- Provides recommendations to the President and CEO, CAO and executive leadership, and Board of Directors regarding strategic priorities, organizational performance, emerging opportunities and risks, resource considerations, and enterprise-wide improvement initiatives.
- Ensures that decisions involving significant changes to organizational strategy, major resource commitments, or matters reserved for executive or Board approval are elevated to the appropriate authority.
Interactions / Working Relationships- Maintains frequent interaction with the President and CEO, CAO and executive leadership, department leaders, and other team members to develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate organizational strategy.
- Regularly works with the Board of Directors and appropriate Board committees to communicate strategic priorities, organizational performance, progress toward strategic goals, and matters requiring Board-level consideration.
- Coordinates across departments to ensure alignment between enterprise strategy, departmental plans, resource allocation, performance measures, and organizational priorities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities1. Enterprise Strategic Planning - 25% Leads the development, implementation, monitoring, and continuous refinement of MHM's multi-year strategic plan across its 74-county service area. Establishes and manages the strategic planning cycle and ensures organizational priorities remain aligned with MHM's Mission, Vision, Core Values, and Board-approved strategic direction.
2. Strategic Execution and Organizational Alignment - 20% Translates enterprise strategy into actionable priorities, organizational wide initiatives, and performance expectations. Works with executive and departmental leadership to align operational plans and resources with strategic priorities and identifies opportunities to improve organizational focus and execution.
3. Strategic Analysis and Decision Support - 15% Develops and oversees analytical processes, reporting, research, forecasting, and decision-support tools that inform strategic and business decisions. Uses financial analysis, organizational data, environmental information, and performance metrics to evaluate strategic initiatives and provide recommendations to leadership.
4. Performance Management and Strategic Reporting - 10% Establishes performance measures, reporting processes, and review cycles to assess progress toward strategic goals. Identifies trends, risks, gaps, and opportunities and develops recommendations and targeted actions to improve organizational performance.
5. Executive and Board Strategy Support - 10% Works closely with the President and CEO, executive leadership, and Board of Directors to assess organizational strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, risks, and long-term strategic considerations. Develops and delivers presentations, analyses, recommendations, and strategic updates for executives and Board audiences. Partners with the Vice President of Strategic Partnerships to ensure the strategic alignment and successful deployment of key partnerships.
6. Strategic Research and Environmental Analysis - 5% Leads or oversees market studies, environmental scans, benchmarking, forecasting, and other research necessary to inform MHM's long-term strategy, organizational priorities, and strategic decision-making to include the organizational partner.
7. Enterprise Process Improvement - 5% Identifies and advances enterprise-wide opportunities for process improvement, organizational effectiveness, innovation, and drives continuous improvement. and drives continuous improvement. Establishes appropriate organizational wide goals and performance measures and facilities review processes to assess effectiveness. Partners with the VP of Organizational Excellence and team to develop departmental goals that cascade from the organizational wide goals and initiatives.
8. Strategic Initiative Oversight - 5% Coordinates the planning, implementation, evaluation, and reporting of major strategic initiatives. Identifies dependencies, risks, resource needs, and barriers to execution and works with organizational leaders to address issues affecting progress.
9. Department Leadership and Budget Management - 5% Provides leadership for assigned staff and manages the department's operating budget, priorities, resources, and work plans. Ensures departmental activities effectively support enterprise strategic priorities.
Supervisory or Leadership ResponsibilitiesProvides direct leadership and supervision to the Director of Strategy and administrative support staff, including setting priorities and expectations, providing coaching and development, evaluating performance, and supporting professional growth. Provides broader enterprise leadership through influence and collaboration across departments to advance MHM's strategic priorities.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications (Required)
- Education: Master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Strategic Management, or a related field.
- Licenses/Certifications: NA
- Experience:
- Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in strategy, strategic planning, organizational strategy, or a related discipline, including experience in a senior-level or leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-wide strategic planning, implementation, and performance management.
- Experience advising executive leadership and developing strategic analyses and recommendations to support organizational decision-making.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional strategic initiatives.

- Demonstrated ability to translate mission, vision, and organizational priorities into measurable strategies and plans.

Preferred Qualifications- Strategy leadership experience within healthcare, public health, philanthropy, nonprofit, or other mission-driven organizations.
- Experience working directly with executive leadership and governing boards on enterprise strategy and organizational performance.
- Experience with scenario planning, forecasting, environmental analysis, and performance measurement.
- Experience leading organizational transformation or significant enterprise-wide change initiatives.
- Professional certification or specialized training in strategic planning, organizational development, change management, process improvement, or a related discipline.
- Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.

Fluency in English is required. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
Technology and ToolsAdvanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook. Must be able to effectively use technology to support strategic planning, financial and performance analysis, project management, executive presentations, reporting, and organizational decision-making. Experience with business intelligence, data visualization, project/portfolio management, or strategic performance management platforms is preferred.
Work Environment and Physical DemandsWork is primarily performed in a professional office environment with regular interaction with executive leadership, organizational leaders, team members, and the Board of Directors. Travel of up to 30% is required, primarily throughout MHM's 74-county service area, with occasional additional travel as needed to fulfill organizational responsibilities.
