We are seeking a strategic and technically driven
Vice President of Engineering to lead the engineering function for our Directional Drilling (DD) and Measurement While Drilling (MWD) operations. This executive leadership position is responsible for driving technology strategy, engineering excellence, innovation, and operational support across North America.
The Vice President of Engineering will oversee the design, development, testing, reliability, and continuous improvement of DD and MWD technologies, tools, and engineering standards. Working closely with Operations, Business Development, HSEQ, and the executive leadership team, this role plays a critical part in advancing the Company's technical capabilities, supporting customer success, and maintaining a competitive edge in the industry.
Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Company's engineering and technology functions.
- Partner closely with DD and MWD Operations leadership to support safe, efficient, and profitable service delivery.
- Lead the design, development, testing, and enhancement of directional drilling and MWD technologies, tools, and processes.
- Establish and maintain engineering standards, technical procedures, and quality assurance programs.
- Provide technical support and engineering expertise for complex drilling operations and customer projects.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on tool reliability, drilling performance, MWD data quality, and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with clients and operations teams to deliver innovative drilling solutions and engineering support for well planning and execution.
- Evaluate, select, and implement emerging technologies, software platforms, and downhole tools.
- Manage departmental budgets, capital expenditures, and engineering resources to achieve operational and financial objectives.
- Support business development activities including proposals, client presentations, technical reviews, and growth opportunities.
- Build, lead, mentor, and develop high-performing engineering teams while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee workforce planning, succession planning, and leadership development initiatives.
- Ensure engineering activities and standards meet all regulatory, industry, and company HSEQ requirements.
- Monitor market trends and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for strategic growth and competitive advantage.
- Provide regular updates and strategic recommendations to the executive leadership team regarding technology investments, operational performance, and engineering initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Petroleum, Electrical, Civil, or related discipline) required.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Engineer (PE) designation required or eligibility for registration.
- Master's degree in Engineering, Business Administration (MBA), or a related field is considered an asset.
- Minimum 15 years of progressive experience within the oil and gas industry.
- Extensive experience in directional drilling, MWD systems, drilling optimization, and wellbore placement.
- Minimum 7-10 years of senior leadership experience managing engineering, technology, or technical services teams.
- Demonstrated success supporting complex drilling programs in conventional, unconventional, and multi-well pad environments
Skills and Competencies- Advanced knowledge of directional drilling technologies, MWD/LWD systems, drilling software, and survey management.
- Strong understanding of drilling operations, well planning, torque and drag analysis, anti-collision management, and drilling performance optimization.
- Proven experience developing engineering standards, operational procedures, and quality management systems.
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, capital projects, and departmental resources.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to effectively influence and collaborate across multiple departments and stakeholder groups.
- Demonstrated commitment to innovation, safety, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction.
