Full Job Description
The Vice President, Marketing leads Medica's Marketing division and reports directly to the Chief Growth & Strategy Officer. The role sets enterprise marketing strategy across Employer, Individual, Medicare, and Medicaid, using market, consumer, member, and performance insights to strengthen business strategies and deliver measurable growth, engagement, and brand outcomes. The Vice President partners closely with the VP Experience and with the Director of Communications in Corporate Communications to align marketing and business communications across the four business lines. Perform other duties as assigned.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Enterprise and Product Marketing Strategy and Growth: Sets the enterprise marketing direction, including product marketing, that advances business strategy and growth
    • Develops enterprise and annual marketing strategies across four business lines, brands, and geographic markets
    • Translates growth, business, and product priorities into audience, positioning, messaging, channel, brand, and go-to-market plans
    • Uses consumer, member, market, competitive, and performance insights to identify opportunities and strengthen business decisions
    • Aligns senior leaders on priorities, investments, and measurable outcomes
  • Business-Line Marketing and Communications: Leads coordinated marketing and business communications across the four major business lines
    • Directs marketing and business communications strategy for Employer, Individual, Medicare, and Medicaid
    • Partners with the Director of Communications in Corporate Communications to align business communications with enterprise messaging, reputation priorities, and standards
    • Coordinates audiences, messages, content, channels, and timing across business-line and functional partners
    • Establishes clear governance, decision rights, and accountability among Marketing, Corporate Communications, and business leaders
  • Brand, Member Engagement, and Experience Partnership: Connects brand and engagement strategies to the experiences Medica intends to deliver
    • Leads brand strategy, advertising, direct and performance marketing, and audience engagement across brands and markets
    • Partners with Experience to align brand promise, member journeys, communications, and engagement strategies
    • Collaborates with Stars, Clinical, Product, Operations, Customer Service, and market leaders to improve member experience and outcomes, including CAHPS and HOS performance
    • Oversees advertising, media, research, production, and other external agency and vendor relationships
  • Performance, Investment, and Marketing Operations: Ensures disciplined investment, measurement, optimization, and operational effectiveness
    • Establishes KPIs, dashboards, attribution, testing, and reporting to measure marketing effectiveness and business impact
    • Uses performance data and research to optimize strategies, campaigns, communications, and investments
    • Manages approximately $6-$7 million in direct annual expenses and coordinates or influences a broader marketing investment portfolio of approximately $20-$50 million
    • Leads forecasting, business cases, resource prioritization, vendor governance, and modernization of marketing capabilities and operating practices
  • People Leadership: Builds and leads a high-performing Marketing division aligned with enterprise priorities
    • Provides strategic direction for approximately 30-50 exempt employees and contractors, including three to five senior director-level direct reports and multiple director-level leaders
    • Sets expectations, provides coaching and feedback, develops talent, and supports succession and professional growth
    • Defines the function's operating model, capabilities, decision rights, and ways of working
    • Promotes inclusion, engagement, collaboration, accountability, compliance, and organizational effectiveness


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, Finance or related field or equivalent experience
  • 15+ years of progressive marketing experience, including 5+ years in senior leadership
  • Required experience includes leading teams of teams; developing enterprise, product marketing, DTC, B2B, brand, digital/performance, member engagement, and communications strategies; operating; using data and analytics to drive decisions; and managing significant budgets, agencies, and organizational change


Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or other relevant advanced degree


This position is an Office role, which requires an employee to work onsite at our Minnetonka office, on average, 3 days per week.

The full base pay salary range for this position is $264,000-$396,000. Annual base pay salary range placement will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, education, work experience, applicable certifications and or licensures, the position's scope and responsibility, internal pay equity and external market salary data.

In addition to base compensation, this position is eligible for Medica's Short Term Incentive plan, Long Term Incentive plan and our Supplemental Executive Retirement Plan.
