Full Job Description
Department: Healthcare Admin Program Salary: Commensurate with Experience/Education
The Department of Healthcare Administration at the University of Houston-Clear Lake prepares students for management and leadership careers across the health sector. The department offers four degree programs - the BS in Healthcare Administration, the BAS in Healthcare Services, the Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA), and the joint Master of Healthcare Administration / Master of Business Administration (MHA/MBA) - serving approximately 400 students.

Graduate instruction is delivered at the university's Texas Medical Center location, placing students and faculty inside the largest medical complex in the world. The department maintains deep practice ties across the Houston market, and its alumni hold executive positions regionally and nationally, including hospital and health system CEO roles.

The College of Business is AACSB-accredited.

Description:

The Department of Healthcare Administration seeks an accomplished healthcare executive to join the faculty in a full-time instructional appointment. The position is designed for a senior leader who has stepped back from - or is stepping between - operating roles and wants to invest that experience in the next generation of healthcare administration leaders.

The successful candidate teaches across the department's undergraduate and graduate programs, mentors students moving toward fellowships and early-career leadership roles and strengthens the connective tissue between the classroom and the Houston healthcare market. This is not a research appointment. The department seeks a leader with substantive operational responsibility, the ability to translate that experience into instruction, and a commitment to learner success.

Position Type: Full-time, non-tenure-track faculty appointment

Term: [One academic year, with possibility of renewal]

Location: UHCL Texas Medical Center location (6624 Fannin Street, Floor 14)

Anticipated Start: [January 2027]

Duties:
  • Teach [3/3] across undergraduate and graduate courses in Healthcare Administration, in face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities
  • Teach at the Texas Medical Center location as scheduled
  • Develop and maintain applied, case-based course materials drawn from current industry practice
  • Mentor students on career pathways, administrative fellowship applications, and professional development
  • Serve as a practice resource to students and faculty, including guest instruction and case facilitation in colleagues' courses
  • Contribute course-embedded assessment data supporting AACSB accreditation requirements
  • Participate in department and college service, including recruitment events, information sessions, and the annual Welcome Symposium
  • Support department engagement with practice partners, alumni, and the professional community
  • Maintain connections in the Houston or Texas healthcare market
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required:
  • Master's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, nursing, public health, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution
  • Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible healthcare leadership experience, including at least five years at the director level or above in a hospital, health system, medical group, payer, or public health organization
  • Current and substantive engagement in the field sufficient to meet AACSB Practice Academic or Instructional Practitioner qualification standards - including consulting, interim leadership, governing or advisory board service, or professional association leadership
  • Evidence of effective teaching, training, or professional instruction
  • Eligibility to work in the United States for the duration of the appointment

Preferred:
  • Experience at the vice president, chief, or CEO level
  • FACHE credential or equivalent professional certification
  • Earned doctorate (PhD, DrPH, DHA, EdD) or clinical doctorate (MD, DNP, PharmD)
  • Prior university teaching experience, particularly online or hybrid
  • Capacity to teach applied courses in healthcare operations, quality and process improvement, healthcare finance, strategy, or health informatics
  • Experience mentoring early careerists or serving as an administrative fellowship preceptor
  • Familiarity with competency-based curriculum design and assessment
  • Established professional network in the Houston or Texas healthcare market

Required Attachments by Candidate:

Applicants must submit all of the following through the university's online application system. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
  1. Letter of application addressing: qualifications for the position; the courses the candidate is prepared to teach; a statement about the candidate's instructional approach and how their experience will affect student learning; and evidence of teaching, training, or instructional effectiveness.
