Job Title: Video Engineer
About the Team and Role
We are seeking a dedicated Video Engineer to join our Video Engineering group at the Huntsville Operations Support Center (HOSC). Our team is responsible for design, implementation, integration, troubleshooting, and ongoing support of enterprise class video distribution systems. This position requires at least five years of relevant experience supporting video systems, broadcast-style infrastructure, control systems, and IP-based video workflows. The role will support mission-critical video environments that rely on reliable signal routing, control interfaces, and network transport technologies, including multicast video distribution.
This is a terrific opportunity to apply your technical skills to NASA's historic efforts, including sustaining operations on the International Space Station (ISS) and powering the Artemis program-which is sending humans back to the Moon and laying the foundation for Mars exploration. Be part of the team in Huntsville, Alabama-the Rocket City-driving advancements in human spaceflight and helping shape the future of exploration.
Core Responsibilities:
• Design, configure, integrate, and support video distribution systems used for operational video display, routing, monitoring, and control.
• Support Evertz video router environments, including routing configuration, signal path troubleshooting, and operational coordination.
• Configure and maintain control technologies including Haivision controls, RGB controls, and Activu controls.
• Develop and maintain video system designs, signal-flow diagrams, configuration documentation, and operational support procedures.
• Troubleshoot video quality, signal routing, endpoint display, control-system, encoder, decoder, and transport issues.
• Support IP-based video distribution workflows, including multicast routing concepts, network segmentation, transport protocols, and coordination with network engineering teams.
• Participate in system upgrades, technology refreshes, testing, acceptance activities, and change-management processes.
• Provide technical support for mission-critical video systems, including after-hours or on-call support when required.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, cybersecurity, networking, and vendor teams to ensure reliable system performance.
• Evaluate emerging video distribution technologies and recommend improvements to enhance reliability, scalability, and operational effectiveness.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
• Minimum of five years of experience in video engineering, broadcast engineering, audiovisual engineering, networked video systems, or a closely related technical field.
• Demonstrated experience designing, supporting, and troubleshooting video distribution systems in operational environments.
• Hands-on experience with Evertz video routing systems or comparable enterprise video router platforms.
• Experience with video control systems, including Haivision, RGB, Activu, or similar control and visualization platforms.
• Strong understanding of video signal flow, video routing, source/destination management, display systems, encoders, decoders, and endpoint devices.
• Working knowledge of network protocols used to support video distribution, including multicast concepts, IGMP, PIM, UDP, RTP, RTSP, TCP/IP, VLANs, QoS, and basic routing and switching principles.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues across video, control, endpoint, and network layers.
• Ability to create and maintain technical documentation, system diagrams, configuration records, and standard operating procedures.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
While not required, experience in any of the following areas will make your application stand out:
• Experience supporting control room, operations center, command center, broadcast, or mission-support video environments.
• Familiarity with streaming media systems, IPTV, KVM-over-IP, video wall systems, and enterprise visualization platforms.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity, configuration management, and change-control practices in enterprise or government environments.
• Relevant certifications such as CTS, Network+, CCNA, or vendor-specific training in video routing, streaming, visualization, or networked AV technologies.
Experience coordinating with vendors for support, maintenance, upgrades, and lifecycle planning.
Preferred Certifications:
• AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS), CTS-I, or CTS-D
• CompTIA Network+ or Security+
• Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent networking certification
• Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), preferred for advanced multicast, routing, and switching support
• Vendor-specific training or certification for Evertz video routing systems
• Haivision training or certification related to video streaming, control, encoding, decoding, or IP video distribution
• RGB Spectrum training or certification related to enterprise visualization, video wall, or control systems
• Activu training or certification related to visualization, command center, or control room video systems
• SMPTE, broadcast engineering, or IP media transport training, including multicast video workflows
Core Competencies:
• Video system design and integration
• Operational troubleshooting and root-cause analysis
• Networked video distribution and multicast support
• Control-system configuration and support
• Technical documentation and process discipline
• Cross-functional coordination with engineering, networking, operations, and vendor teams
• Customer-focused support in time-sensitive operational environments
Education:
Associate degree or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, information technology, broadcast engineering, audiovisual technology, telecommunications, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, training, certification, and hands-on experience may be considered.
• May require support during maintenance windows, system outages, operational events, or after-hours troubleshooting.
• May require work in technical equipment rooms, control rooms, operations centers, and network infrastructure spaces.
