Full Job Description
Position Overview: The Vice President, Client Advisory is a developmental practice-building role designed to cultivate the next generation of business development and advisory leaders. The position is intended for high-potential professionals who aspire to originate new client relationships, grow an advisory practice, and become trusted advisors to ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families, family offices, foundations, and endowments. Through experience across business development, relationship management, and wealth management, participants will develop the capabilities needed to contribute to Pathstone's long-term growth.

Working alongside Directors, Managing Directors and other firm leaders, this role will have exposure to the full client lifecycle, from prospect development and business development strategy to investment implementation, financial planning and ongoing relationship management.

Initial Training Program: Successful candidates will participate in a cohort-based training program expected to begin in late summer 2027 in Pathstone's New York City office. The cohort model is designed to create a shared learning experience, build peer relationships, and provide direct exposure to firm leaders and Pathstone's collaborative culture.

Through this structured, immersive multi-month training program, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of Pathstone's integrated wealth management platform, including Investment Research & Portfolio Construction, Financial Planning & Professional Services, Business Development & Practice Management, and Client Advisory & Relationship Management. The program is designed to build the technical expertise, commercial acumen, and relationship management skills needed to serve clients and contribute to the firm's continued growth. Participants will learn how to identify opportunities, articulate Pathstone's differentiated value proposition, and develop trusted relationships with clients and centers of influence. Throughout the program, they will experience the collaborative, multidisciplinary approach that defines Pathstone's client experience and supports our mission of helping clients achieve their Preferred LifeTemporary housing is provided during the training period.

Participants will be assigned to a Pathstone office location as part of the offer process, with placement determined through a collaborative process that considers firm needs, market opportunities, and the participant's interests and preferences. Following completion of the training program, participants will transition to their assigned office location and begin building their own advisory practice and client relationships within the Pathstone platform. Supported by a personalized growth and development plan, participants will focus on cultivating new business opportunities, developing enduring client relationships, and growing their impact within the firm. Success in the role will be measured against defined performance and developmental milestones that evolve as participants grow their advisory practice and assume increasing responsibility over time.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Development & Practice Management
  • Cultivate a deep understanding of local markets to identify growth opportunities, develop targeted business plans, and drive initiatives that expand Pathstone's client base and market share.
  • Support the team in identifying and pitching new potential clients and opportunities to expand the services we provide clients. Partner on prospect strategy, proposal development and client presentations, developing the skills to win new business.
  • Develop and continuously expand a referral network, building Pathstone's presence through frequent interaction and communication with external parties.
  • Assist with national and office efforts related to business development efforts, client engagement events, community outreach, philanthropic activities and other opportunities that foster business growth.
  • Maintain a pulse on the industry through research, conferences, and networking.

Client Advisory, Investments & Relationship Support
  • Manage and maintain multiple client relationships, in both a primary and support capacity with the goal of becoming the trusted advisor for our clients.
  • Create and maintain investment policy statements (IPS) for clients.
  • Construct customized investment portfolios to meet each client's specific needs, as articulated in their IPS.
  • Oversee ongoing portfolio construction and rebalancing.
  • Collaborate with clients on spending policy, cash flow planning, asset location and custody.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for client inquiries.
  • Proactively identify and address client needs while maintaining a high standard of service.
  • Partner with our Professional Services team (when applicable) to ensure clients' tax, estate, personal, business, and philanthropic plans are managed and executed according to their specific requirements.

Analysis, Reporting & Operations
  • Prepare performance analyses, relevant investment information and client presentation materials.
  • Act as an information liaison to accountants, banks, attorneys, lenders and other external professionals supporting client relationships.

Leadership & Mentorship
  • Serve as a mentor and operational expert to junior staff.
  • Contribute to process improvements and operational best practices within the office.
  • Contribute positively to the overall office morale and engagement.


Qualifications:
  • Required:
    • Bachelor's degree.
    • Series 65 is required within 90 days of employment. Pathstone will assist in training and registration.
    • Completion of an advanced degree (MBA, JD or other equivalent degree) by your start date.
  • Preferred:
    • CFA and/or CFP certification or meaningful progress is strongly valued.
    • 4+ years of experience in the finance industry with demonstrated client engagement experience.

  • Comfortable communicating with clients and their professional advisors regarding investments, high-level estate planning items, investment and financial markets, and high-level tax planning items.
  • Foundational knowledge of globally diversified investment portfolios and asset allocation strategies, including alternative investments.

Pay Transparency:Pathstone's expected starting base salary for this position as of the time of this posting is $175,000 per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and other job-related factors. In addition to base salary, team members in eligible roles may participate in Pathstone's discretionary incentive compensation programs, which may include an annual cash bonus and long-term incentive opportunities. Eligibility and awards are determined in accordance with applicable Pathstone compensation plans and policies.

Eligible candidates whose designated office location differs from the training location may also receive relocation assistance to support their transition following training.
