Description

Position at Autocar, LLC

Vice President of Business Development

Own the Construction Market. Win on Value.

Competitive executive compensation and performance-based upside aligned to market share growth.

Location: Birmingham, AL

The Opportunity

This is a take-the-market role.

Autocar is positioned to win in Construction with products that compete on performance, safety, reliability, and total lifecycle cost. Our product focus is on Mixers, Dump Trucks, Roll-Offs and other specialized construction configurations. We have strong customer relationships and a clear foothold in the market. What we are enhancing now is the sales engine to scale that advantage and systematically displace entrenched competitors through a differentiated, value-based approach rather than price-driven sales.

Central to our strategy is a results-driven Vice President of Business Development to lead that effort. The Vice President of Business Development is Autocar's commercial strategist and Construction market authority. This is a market-shaping role. The VP of BD owns Autocar's competitive strategy in the Construction sector, the relationships with the industry's largest and most strategically important fleet accounts, and the business development initiatives that open new market segments - including emerging opportunities.

This role requires deep Construction industry fluency: you must understand the buyer's world from the inside. You know what a fleet director at CRH or Vulcan Materials cares about at 6:00 AM, you understand the economics of a missed load, and you can speak to uptime, TCO and corporate procurement with the credibility that only comes from years in the industry. This is not a sales management role - it is a commercial leadership role that shapes the market Autocar competes in.

This is a high-visibility, high-impact position suited for a leader who is looking to compete in the market-and be rewarded for doing it.

What You Will Own

Market Strategy & Competitive Positioning
  • Define and own Autocar's competitive strategy in the Construction and vocational truck market, with a clear plan to aggressively capture competitor-held accounts and expand long-standing customer relationships through value differentiation, not price.
  • Develop and execute a market penetration strategy that identifies addressable opportunities, segments the customer base, and allocates Autocar's commercial resources against the highest-return targets.
  • Evangelize Autocar's value proposition - uptime performance, ALWAYS UP4 direct factory support, lifecycle cost advantage, and the direct-to-fleet model - at the industry's most senior commercial levels.
  • Monitor and interpret market dynamics: fleet consolidation trends, regulatory changes (NOx standards, ZEV mandates), alternative fuel transitions, and competitor moves. Translate intelligence into actionable strategy.

New Market & Segment Development
  • Lead Autocar's business development efforts into emerging and adjacent market opportunities.
  • Identify develop partnership and channel strategies for new verticals, fleet accounts, municipalities, and strategic partners for market expansion.

Strategic National Account Development
  • Own Autocar's most strategic national fleet relationships, operating at C-suite and VP level with the industry's largest construction industry players
  • Develop long-term fleet partnerships that extend beyond individual truck purchases - multi-year contracts, fleet transition plans, and lifecycle service agreements.
  • Identify and develop new strategic accounts, converting competitor-held relationships through deep industry credibility and Autocar's differentiated value proposition.

Revenue Lifecycle & Growth
  • Own the full revenue development lifecycle in collaboration with the VP of Sales: demand generation strategy, account expansion planning, long-term contract development, and customer retention.
  • Develop the commercial case for new product investments, market entries, and business development initiatives, including financial modelling and executive-level presentation.
  • Partner with the VP of Sales to ensure business development activities translate into executable territory plans and pipeline activity.

This role is in close partnership with the VP of Sales, who owns team performance, pipeline discipline, and execution. The VP of Business Development provides the market intelligence, customer relationships, and strategic direction that the VP of Sales converts into revenue.

Who You Are
  • 10+ years of senior commercial experience, with at least 5+ years directly in the Construction industry - whether from the OEM/manufacturer side or from a senior leadership role at a national or major regional hauler.
  • Documented track record of managing and growing C-suite and VP-level relationships at large construction equipment purchasers
  • Deep knowledge of the Construction truck ecosystem: OEM chassis, body manufacturers, fleet procurement dynamics, and the direct vs. dealer channel distinction.
  • Experience developing and executing go-to-market strategies, not just executing against an assigned territory.
  • Bachelor's degree (MBA or technical background preferred).
  • Willing to relocate to our flagship facility in Birmingham, Alabama.

What You'll Get
  • Competitive compensation that recognizes your skills, experience, and impact.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life and AD&D insurance, and short-term and long-term disability to support your well-being.
  • 401(k) with a company match to help you invest in your future.
  • Paid time off (PTO) and company holidays to rest, recharge, and maintain work-life balance.
  • A high-impact role with real ownership
