Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel and support to the Henkel Adhesive Technologies business unit in North America.
  • Serve as the trusted legal advisor for key functions including sales, operations, and marketing.
  • Lead a team of 16 legal professionals, overseeing commercial, patent, and trademark teams.
  • Participate in the NA Legal Leadership Team to drive strategic initiatives and talent development.
  • Collaborate with regional and global legal teams on complex legal matters.
  • Maintain a strong in-office presence while allowing for a hybrid work schedule.

Full Job Description
What you'll do
  • Significant Scope: Head attorney responsible for providing legal guidance and support to the Henkel Adhesive Technologies (HAT) business unit in North America which regularly deals with sophisticated counter-parties in dozens of industries, including electronics, automotive, aerospace, construction, packaging, chemicals, oil, gas, solar & wind, medical devices, infrastructure, and manufacturing
  • High-Level Impact: Act as the trusted legal counselor to Henkel's HAT sales, operations, supply chain, marketing, R&D, and strategy functions; work closely with the senior leaders of the 8 HAT strategic business units in NA advising on critical business topics and crisis management; and routinely advise the NAMEX cross-functional management team
  • Critical Team Leadership: Lead a team of 16 professionals (9 attorneys and 7 paralegals) who constitute the commercial team, the patent team and the trademark team supporting the North American HAT business
  • Key Department Leadership: Serve on the NA Legal Leadership Team working with the NA CLO and other senior legal leaders to drive strategy and develop talent for the 48 person NA Legal Department
  • Broad Regional and Global Network: Collaborate with regional legal teams specializing in employment/labor, mergers and acquisitions, compliance, corporate governance, risk management, and litigation, and partner with legal colleagues throughout the world on complex, cross-border legal matters
  • Presence, Balanced with Flexibility: In-office presence at Henkel's Rocky Hill, CT headquarters is critical due to responsibilities for team leadership, relationship building with key stakeholders, and close collaboration on highly sensitive and quickly changing matters, but the position also allows the flexibility of a 60% in office/ 40% remote hybrid schedule.
What makes you a good fit
  • Juris Doctor from accredited US law school; an active Connecticut state bar license, or a state bar license in another state, with the ability to obtain a CT Authorized House Counsel license
  • 12-20 years' experience providing counsel on commercial law issues at a law firm, an in-house law department, or a combination of the two, with a preference for sophisticated contract work, crisis management, and ideally acquisition integration experience in the industrial setting
  • Significant substantive expertise in a majority of the following areas: commercial contracts (sales, supply, services, contract-manufacturing, joint development, licensing, equipment, distribution, real estate, etc.); regulatory compliance, including EPA/FDA, trade, and sanctions; antitrust compliance; privacy compliance; product crises and recalls; intellectual property (patents, trademarks and copyrights); and environmental law compliance and mergers and acquisitions
  • Must be able to develop strong business awareness and knowledge of the business's specific strategies and priorities, and provide legal guidance that is informed by both the business's strategic priorities and substantive legal requirements
  • Must have the credibility and integrity to build strong relationships of significant trust with senior business leaders while also having difficult discussions
  • Must have a solutions mindset and the ability to communicate complex legal issues in a practical manner, easily digestible by non-lawyers and always balancing risk with the importance of business goals
  • Must have the ability to lead, motivate, and develop people in an authentic, consistent, and credible manner and a strong record of full commitment, taking ownership, and leading by example
  • Must be a highly collaborative team-player with the experience, interpersonal skills, and agility to build strong relationships with individuals at different levels, in different jobs, and from different cultures
  • Commitment to process improvement and the willingness to embrace technology solutions
  • Capacity to travel domestically as required (up to 10%) and rarely internationally

The salary range for this role is $250,000.00 and $310,000.00. This range represents the good-faith minimum and maximum wages the Company reasonably expects to offer for this role at the time of posting. In addition to base salary, this position may be eligible for incentive pay or other forms of compensation, as applicable. The Company also offers a comprehensive benefits package as described above. Actual compensation will be based on factors such as the candidate's skills, experience, education, training, and work location.
