Full Job Description
Join NYCEDC's Asset Management Design & Construction (AMDC) team and help deliver capital projects that improve and preserve New York City's public assets. The AMDC team manages the planning, design, and construction of a diverse portfolio across all five broughs, including industrial and commercial facilities, waterfront properties, cruise terminals, and public markets. Working with a multidisciplinary team of architects, engineers, planners, and construction professionals, you'll help manage delivery of projects that support the city's infrastructure and economic growth.

Position Overview: Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Design & Construction, the Vice President (VP) will lead the full lifecycle of design and construction projects related to the NYC Groceries initiative and other projects as assigned. The VP will work closely with AMDC leadership, NYC Groceries leadership, internal NYCEDC departments, external partners, consultants, governmental agencies, operators, and community stakeholders to ensure NYC Groceries and related projects are planned, procured, designed, and delivered in alignment with organizational goals, policy objectives, budget requirements, and project schedules. The VP will have a critical role in upholding and executing the NYC Groceries brand and aesthetics, ensuring consistent implementation across all stores.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Departmental Management and Leadership:
  • Collaborate with department head to define and execute departmental strategy and goals.
  • Manage, coach, and develop assigned staff: ensure appropriate onboarding, training, and continuing professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing culture grounded in mission, program excellence, and shared purpose.

Project Execution/Design & Construction:
  • Lead the strategic management of all project development phases, including procurement of architecture, engineering, and construction teams, conducting thorough existing conditions assessments, feasibility studies, budgeting, and securing regulatory approvals.
  • Lead the strategic management of scope, cost, and schedule controls; ensure accurate project reporting and documentation throughout the lifecycle.
  • Execute a risk-based management approach to project delivery which includes identifying project risk, forecasting project risk, and appropriately mitigating project risk.
  • Anticipate regulatory and approval processes and critical path workflow to ensure positive project momentum.

Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Collaborate across NYC Groceries teams to ensure projects align with current policies and operational and maintenance considerations.
  • Support the larger NYC Groceries initiative (and other projects as assigned) and ensure internal and external stakeholders are informed, engaged, and consulted throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, tailoring messaging to diverse audiences.
  • Perform other duties assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in architecture, engineering, urban planning, construction management, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects from start to finish, leading projects through ambiguity, and galvanizing resources from various teams to advance project execution
  • Experience with NYC project delivery and grocery store design/construction preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability leading teams and developing and mentoring staff
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Analytical thinker with a proven ability to troubleshoot and anticipate project challenges and develop effective solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience in effective relationship management, written and verbal communication, and delivering presentations
  • Demonstrated track record of developing and maintaining productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of budgeting and cost analysis for design and construction projects.
  • Experience with NYC regulatory approval processes preferred
  • Experience with construction management software and scheduling software preferred.
  • Actively pursuing professional registration (PE, RA, AICP, PMP, etc.) preferred.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
  • NYC residency is required within 180 days of hire.


Salary Range

$145,000-$150,000 USD
