Veterinary Technician Specialist, Emergency and Critical Care
Location: Chicago, IL
Schedule: Full Time | Varying Shifts | 4 Nine Hour Shifts Per Week
Compensation: $35-45/hr for VTS Credentialed Team Members | $25-35/hr for Certified Veterinary Technicians
In Your Day-To-Day, You Will:- Perform comprehensive patient assessments by obtaining detailed medical histories, conducting physical examinations, and closely monitoring patient condition throughout treatment.
- Utilize your advanced technical skills to administer and monitor anesthesia, collect and prepare diagnostic samples, and collaborate with veterinarians to develop and adjust patient care plans based on diagnostic findings.
- Serve as a strong patient advocate by delivering exceptional nursing care while ensuring every patient receives compassionate, individualized treatment.
- Maintain accurate, detailed medical records documenting patient history, treatments, progress, and client communications to support continuity of care.
- Apply your advanced knowledge of pharmacology to safely calculate, prepare, administer, and monitor medications and treatments in accordance with hospital protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Help foster a culture of learning by mentoring teammates, sharing clinical knowledge, and providing guidance on nursing best practices, protocols, pharmacology, and patient handling.
- Champion a safe, clean, and compliant hospital environment by promoting best practices and helping ensure adherence to national, state, and local veterinary regulations.
- Work collaboratively with veterinarians and the nursing team to deliver exceptional patient outcomes while continuously improving the quality of care.
What You Bring: - Current CVT, RVT, LVT, or LVMT credential is required.
- A Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) certification-or active pursuit of specialty certification-is highly valued and will receive strong consideration.
- At least 5 years of experience in a high-volume Emergency and Critical Care environment, with the confidence to manage complex cases and advanced patient care.
- Proven leadership abilities with a passion for mentoring teammates, fostering collaboration, and supporting a culture of clinical excellence.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, analytical thinking, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
- The ability to think critically, remain calm under pressure, and make sound clinical decisions while working with a high degree of autonomy.
- A commitment to exceptional patient care, client education, and continuous learning, with the ability to effectively train and develop fellow technicians while strengthening the entire care team.
