Full Job Description
JOB TITLE

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI)'s Regulation & Certification Department is currently seeking a Vehicle Emissions Lab (VEL) Engineer for our team at the Chino facility in California. HATCI's Certification & Compliance Team helps support Hyundai and Kia vehicles meeting the challenging environmental, and emissions standards at the federal, state, and local levels, through certification & in-use testing.

The VEL Engineer is responsible for verifying all lab equipment, instrumentation, service and maintenance, calibrations, correlation, and lab compliance to the EPA CFR, CARB CCR and ISO17025 requirements. The VEL engineer ensures compliance with U.S. federal and state regulations, as well as the accuracy and reliability of results obtained from complex test procedures and measurement equipment.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Ensure awareness and understanding of complex technical US Federal and State regulations
  • Oversight accuracy and conclusiveness of all test equipment calibrations to meet governmental regulations
  • Coordinate and oversight the required maintenance of all laboratory testing equipment
  • Comply with the processes and requirements necessary to maintain ISO 17025 audit readiness
  • Control emissions test equipment to achieve a high degree of dependability
  • Troubleshoot emissions and measurement equipment for automotive testing
  • Support and conduct audits, including internal audits for ISO 17025 accreditation and EPA/CARB audits (Ann Arbor and Chino), to verify laboratory operations and ensure compliance with current and future EPA CFR requirements.
  • Plan and conduct Test Cells correlation testing between HATCI Chino, Ann Arbor, Namyang, HMMA, and regulatory agencies, when applicable, in accordance with regulatory requirements and ISO 17025
  • Adhere to policies concerning data retention with Hyundai Security standards and government mandates
  • Support VEL Manager and Sr. Engineer with testing schedules, lap operation and upgrading of emissions test equipment.
  • Maintain emissions test facility and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, workplace health and safety, and company policies.
  • Support RCT and CEMOV fleet operation, including emission tests planning and execution
  • Create and present technical reports as assigned
  • Exceptional organization and communication skills, both oral and written, are necessary for this position
  • Travel up to 10% of time


WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

  • Demonstrated knowledge of certification & compliance processes
  • Demonstrated knowledge of vehicle emissions & test regulations such as CFR 40 Parts §86, §600, §1065, §1066, and the CCR or a clear understanding of capability necessary to review, interpret, and apply such regulations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of RDE, ICE, and xEV testing activity
  • Automotive manufacturing knowledge beneficial
  • Knowledge of Emissions Test Benches, Chassis Dynamometers, Automation Systems, PEMS equipment
  • Knowledge of emissions, fuel economy, evaporative, on-road, energy consumption, and electric range testing
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, high integrity and ethical behavior

Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Environmental Engineering or equivalent
