JOB DESCRIPTION
Build and scale an AI-native design system — hands-on across code, AI agents, and the layers that turn design into shipped product.
Shape the future of how JPMorganChase designs and builds for nearly 320,000 employees — where code-first craft, AI-native systems thinking, and elegant design converge to raise the bar for what a small team can ship.
As a UX Creative Technologist, Vice President at JPMorganChase within the Design System and Storytelling Team in the Employee Experience organization, you will be a senior individual contributor and craft authority at the center of building an AI-native design system from the ground up. You will bring deep expertise in design systems and AI-augmented engineering to a code-first foundation built to work for both humans and AI — starting at the foundation and pushing further into agent orchestration, automations, and middle-layer connections that help the system self-serve and enable every team across the organization. You will partner closely with the Design Director and associate designers, setting the quality bar for everything built on top of the system and owning your work from day one.
Our team ethos combines a love for design, continuous skill development, and elegant craft delivered at speed. We take complex problems and make them feel immediately obvious through systems, tooling, and AI-augmented workflows — letting a small team ship like a large one and raising the standard for how the Employee Experience organization designs and builds across the firm. You will bring a creative portfolio and a codebase that prove it: real coded experiences that users love, deep user-experience understanding, expertise in complex applications and systems, and a clear command of how to work with AI — both to generate experiences and to ship agents into a workflow.
Job responsibilities
- Lead hands-on creation of the AI-native design system end-to-end — from foundations, tokens, components, patterns, and documentation to a scalable contribution model — as a coded, evolving, living product
- Deliver high production-quality, accessible, sub-atomic code that other teams can build on with confidence
- Design and ship AI agents and automations that make the system generative, self-serve, and self-improving — from foundation scaffolding to on-demand pattern generation
- Establish middle-layer connections, APIs, integration points, and tooling that link the design system to the products, pipelines, and workflows that consume it
- Set the creative engineering and design bar for the system — spanning visual and interaction quality, code architecture, and performance
- Integrate AI natively into daily workflows — including prototyping, generation, and agentic tooling — to accelerate delivery without sacrificing craft
- Build coded prototypes and explorations that validate ideas before the team commits to shipping them
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to embed the design system into leadership tools and key internal product moments
- Serve as a hands-on technical authority, translating complex product and design problems into systems and tooling that teams can align behind and build upon
- Partner with the Design Director and associate designers to push the team's craft and pace, collectively doing the best work of our careers
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- 5+ years of experience or equivalent expertise in creative technology, design engineering, user experience, design systems, or similar craft-and-code roles
- Exceptional design taste and craft, with demonstrated ability to set and maintain the visual and interaction quality bar
- Proven experience building and scaling design systems as coded infrastructure, with real adoption across multiple teams
- Strong, production-level front-end engineering skills across modern frameworks, token-based systems, accessibility standards, and performance optimization
- Hands-on experience building AI agents, automations, or AI-augmented tooling and shipping them into real workflows
- Strong understanding of UI architecture and front-end technical constraints and requirements for complex applications
- Experience partnering closely with engineering teams and communicating effectively in developer terms
- Background in agency, studio, or high-speed delivery environments, with a track record of shipping high-quality work at pace
- Familiarity with Git-based workflows, including contributing to and pushing changes through shared repositories
- Demonstrated experience applying inclusive design and accessibility guidelines, embedding both into the components and patterns that ship
- Fluency across Figma, VS Code, modern front-end frameworks, and AI coding tools, with a willingness to adopt new tools as they emerge
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Portfolio and codebase that demonstrate design systems, production front-end work, and shipped AI agents together in a single profile
- Experience building AI-native or generative capabilities into a design system, such as design-to-code pipelines, agentic component generation, or automated documentation
- Comfort operating across the middle layer — connecting front-ends to services, data, and pipelines rather than working only at the UI surface
- Background in agency, advertising, videogames, design engineering, or future-concepting environments
- Hands-on motion and micro-interaction experience in production applications, comfortable writing interface animation in code (CSS, JS, or Lottie) so motion ships as a living part of the system
- Demonstrated ability to treat AI as a building partner — using agents to generate, iterate, and scale the system alongside your own craft
- Experience leading systems, platforms, or craft initiatives with a track record of raising quality across a team
