Role summary:
The Principal Software Engineer leads the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving innovation in cloud-native architectures and AI/ML integration. This role oversees the full software development lifecycle, ensuring high availability, reliability, and performance across distributed systems. By providing strategic technical leadership and mentorship, the position fosters engineering excellence and aligns efforts with long-term business objectives. The Principal Software Engineer collaborates cross-functionally to translate complex challenges into actionable solutions, continuously advancing technology standards and supporting the evolution of Walmart's engineering vision.
About the team:
The team addresses complex business and technical challenges within Growth Tech by utilizing advanced AI coding agents throughout planning, design, implementation, testing, and operations. They establish standards for scalable, reliable, and secure production systems at the convergence of software engineering, data, and AI. Delivering valuable insights to suppliers and merchants, the team develops platforms for intelligent automation, including agent orchestration and customer-facing AI solutions. Emphasizing rapid iteration and adaptive systems that learn from usage, the team promotes collaboration and continuous improvement to drive innovation in a dynamic environment.
What you'll do:

What you'll bring:
  • Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership, delivering scalable, cloud-native architectures and reusable tooling.
  • Proven ability to drive full software development lifecycle including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance.
  • Expertise in designing distributed systems optimized for real-time data processing and AI/ML integration.
  • Strong technical judgment with a focus on architectural decision-making and long-term system evolution.
  • Proficiency in AI agents, model-driven design, and cloud computing architecture.
  • Demonstrated leadership in mentoring engineers and influencing cross-team technical standards.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
