Job Title: Unconventional Development & Production Geoscientist Duration: 1 year (possibility of extension) Schedule: 5/40 Location: Spring, TX
This opportunity sits within a major oil and gas environment focused on unconventional reservoir development, subsurface interpretation, and development optimisation. The role will support multidisciplinary decision-making by integrating seismic, well, geological, geochemical, pressure, production, and completion data to improve well placement, recovery, and long-term asset value. This position offers exposure to field-scale and development-scale geological modelling, resource evaluation, and well planning in a technically complex upstream setting.
Required Education:
Master's degree or equivalent advanced degree in geology, geophysics, petroleum geoscience, or a related discipline
Required Experience:
Significant oil and gas geoscience experience with unconventional reservoir development exposure
Experience integrating subsurface interpretation with drilling, completions, reservoir engineering, and production data
Experience supporting resource assessment, development planning, and inventory ranking within unconventional assets
Experience building and maintaining regional, field-scale, and development-scale geological models
Required Skills:
Strong capability in sequence stratigraphy, sedimentology, structural interpretation, petrophysics, reservoir characterization, geological modelling, and resource evaluation
Proficiency in seismic interpretation, well correlation, mapping, volumetric assessment, uncertainty analysis, and well-development planning
Strong understanding of unconventional reservoir geomechanics, hydraulic-fracture behaviour, pressure depletion, well interference, and completion-performance relationships
Ability to integrate seismic, well-log, core, geological, geochemical, pressure, production, and completion data into a coherent reservoir interpretation
Ability to identify landing zones, well trajectories, lateral lengths, spacing, stacking patterns, and development sequencing
Ability to support geosteering, offset-well analysis, pre-drill prognosis preparation, operational risk assessment, and post-well evaluation
Ability to perform probabilistic resource assessments, uncertainty analysis, risking, development scenario evaluation, and inventory ranking
Strong analytical, collaboration, technical-assurance, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills
Ability to make practical recommendations from incomplete or uncertain datasets while clearly distinguishing observations, interpretations, assumptions, and risks
Right to work in the USA
Preferred Qualifications:
Development experience in shale oil, tight oil, shale gas, or liquids-rich unconventional plays
Experience progressing an asset from resource appraisal and pilot development through full-field manufacturing-scale execution
Working knowledge of horizontal drilling, geosteering, multi-stage hydraulic fracturing, microseismic interpretation, fibre-optic diagnostics, pressure-interference testing, and production surveillance
Experience with static modelling, integrated subsurface workflows, machine-assisted interpretation, and analysis of large well and production datasets
Familiarity with geological and reservoir software used for interpretation, modelling, well planning, and development optimisation
Demonstrated success improving landing-zone selection, well spacing, inventory quality, recovery, or development economics through integrated geoscience analysis
