Responsibilities

  • Conduct portable ultrasound exams as necessary.
  • Execute complex ultrasound tasks to identify anatomical abnormalities according to established procedures.
  • Prepare and organize medical supplies, instruments, and equipment for procedures.
  • Educate patients on ultrasound procedures and ensure proper positioning for accurate imaging.
  • Assess and verify the quality of ultrasound images before archiving.

Overview

The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing a variety of specialized technical tasks in Diagnostic Ultrasound utilizing high frequency sound waves to assist medical and professional personnel in detecting anatomical abnormalities.

 

Candidates must have experience in perinatal scanning. Certification in Nuchal Translucency is preferred. Certification in Fetal echo cardiology a plus.

 

Responsibilities

A day in the life of an Ultrasound Technologis at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Performs procedures according to departmental format, completing exam in allotted time.
  • Performs required daily clerical duties, which include the use of EPIC, computer systems, patient scheduling, and other computer systems.
  • Performs portable ultrasound exams.
  • Performs a variety of complex technical tasks in Diagnostic Ultrasound utilizing high frequency sound waves to detect anatomical abnormalities in accordance with prescribed sonographic procedures.
  • Determines, prepares, and sets up medical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Prepares patients for diagnostic procedures, explains procedures, measures and positions patients for each anatomical view.
  • Evaluates technical quality of images.
  • Maintains records of ultrasound taken, archiving, and de-archiving data as required.
  • Calculates, compiles, and records data from numerical readings on patient`s charts and related documents.
  • Cleans and sterilizes instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Stocks and replenishes supplies as required.
  • Provides technical assistance and instruction to students, employees, and medical residents.
  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and /or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • Graduate of an approved Ultrasound School.
  • Knowledge of all ultrasound equipment, their function, and operation of each control.
  • Understanding of equipment and computer systems as well as the procedures for equipment service.
  • Knowledge of safety, infection, and disaster policy and procedures, including implementation of patient care in cases of an emergency situation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience at a Maternal Fetal Medicine practice.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • ARDMS Certification or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certification.
  • Nuchal Translucency Certification within 90 days of entering position.
  • BLS AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

  • Fetal Echocardiography Certification.
