Transportation Project Manager

We have an exciting career opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced Project Manager with experience in roadway, highway, and/or civil site design to join our Michigan Transportation group. This role will be part of an established Transportation engineering group and will work with various transportation clients and projects. In this role, you'll be involved in self-performing and directing project teams, contributing to planning and designing infrastructure projects, and playing a crucial role in nurturing client relationships. Your responsibilities will extend to providing design support and leadership for various projects, including freeway and non-freeway roadways, from simple to complex design Collaboration with disciplines such as hydraulic, traffic, structures, and environmental will be integral as you lead efforts to develop comprehensive turnkey projects.

Location

This position supports a flexible hybrid work model, with a primary emphasis on in-office collaboration from our East Lansing office and opportunities for alternate schedules and remote work arrangements.

Our Michigan Division team is proud to lead high-impact projects that demonstrate the depth and diversity of our technical expertise, including:

M-49 RECONSTRUCTION FROM THE SOUTH VILLAGE LIMITS TO NORTH OF THE W. FORK OF THE W. BRANCH OF THE ST. JOSEPH RIVER. Reconstruction of M-49, including a superstructure replacement, two box culvert replacements, TAP Grant enhancements, retaining walls, new sidewalk.

M-150 RECONSTRUCTION FROM AVON ROAD TO THE CLINTON RIVER, CITY OF ROCHESTER HILLS & PAINT CREEK TO TIENKEN ROAD. Reconstruction of M-150, including new storm sewer, GLE permit, two bridge rehabilitations and water main replacements.

I-69 FROM SOUTH OF I-94 TO ISLAND HIGHWAY DESIGN-BUILD. This alternative pavement bid design-build reconstructed 24.58 miles of I-69 Calhoun County to Island Highway in Eaton County. This HMA pavement project involved improvements to drainage, geometrics and safety.

US-31 CONNECTION, I-94 RECONSTRUCT, I-94BL REALIGNMENT/RECONSTRUCT, DESIGN-BUILD . This design-build project involved the construction of 3.8 miles of new US-31 freeway, a new US-31/I-94 partial cloverleaf interchange, the reconstruction of 3 miles of I-94

M-53, RED RUN DRAIN TO 18 MILE ROAD. Design for the reconstruction of 3.3 miles of a six-lane boulevard section with major signalized intersections and median crossovers, safety study and crash analysis, resulting in the recommendation of geometric intersection improvements.

The Impact You Will Have
  • Collaborate with local management to strategize and implement project pursuits and delivery efforts.
  • Devise and implement strategies for capturing project opportunities, including teaming arrangements and strategic positioning, while identifying necessary staff resources for successful project acquisition and delivery.
  • Build and nurture relationships with both external and internal clients.
  • Supervise and guide staff to facilitate smooth design and plan development processes.
  • Engage in the design phases of roadways, highways, and interstates, overseeing projects from preliminary to final design stages.
  • Create plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates in accordance with project requirements.
  • Coordinate with reviewers and other disciplines to ensure the accuracy and quality of work.
  • Contribute to the development of proposals for project pursuits.
  • Provide direct support to Project Managers and Design Leaders.
  • Effectively manage and organize project documentation.
  • Collaborate within a dynamic team to fulfill project requirements and deliver a high-quality design to the client.

What We Are Looking For
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, or higher, is required
  • 10 + years of progressive experience designing and delivering MI transportation (MDOT) projects
  • Michigan PE required
  • Experience as project manager or lead roadway engineer on MDOT projects
  • Experience working with clients such as State and County Departments of Transportation, and municipal.
  • Proficient at using MicroStation and Open Roads Designer
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
