GHD's US West West Roads team is looking for a Transportation Project Engineer - Municipal Roadways with minimum 7 years of experience. You will lead roadway design assignments and coordinate multidisciplinary teams on small to midsize projects for cities, counties, Caltrans, contractors, and alternative delivery clients. This is an opportunity to take ownership of complete design packages, manage smaller projects, build trusted client relationships, mentor developing staff, and grow toward project management or technical leadership.

This position can be located in any of our offices in Sacramento, Roseville Eureka, Redding, San Luis Obispo or Santa Rosa, CA

You will work across planning, preliminary engineering, final design, and construction support on design-bid-build, design-build, progressive design-build, and other collaborative delivery projects. You will:
  • Lead design tasks and small to midsize projects for municipal roadways, complete streets, multimodal facilities, trails, and related public works improvements.
  • Own and coordinate complete PS&E packages, technical memoranda, reports, calculations, and cost estimates in accordance with Caltrans and local agency standards.
  • Integrate roadway, grading, drainage, utility, traffic, accessibility, right-of-way, survey, structural, geotechnical, and environmental inputs into practical designs.
  • Work directly with public agency and contractor clients, subconsultants, utility owners, construction teams, and internal disciplines to resolve issues and keep projects moving.
  • Manage or support the scope, schedule, budget, staffing, risk, and quality of assignments.
  • Guide junior engineers and designers and provide responsive support during bidding and construction.


Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive civil engineering experience focused on small to midsize municipal roadway, complete streets, multimodal, or related public works projects.
  • California Civil Engineer license, or the ability to obtain California registration within 12 months of hire.
  • Hands-on experience delivering small to midsize municipal roadway or public works projects and coordinating complete design packages.
  • Proficiency using AutoCAD Civil 3D for roadway design and production. Experience with Bentley MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, or InRoads is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of Caltrans and local agency design standards, permitting, funding, and project delivery requirements.
  • Strong engineering judgment and the ability to balance technical requirements, constructability, cost, schedule, and client needs.
  • Clear communication, a collaborative approach, and a willingness to take ownership and help others succeed.
  • Local agency experience is preferred. Caltrans, design-build, progressive design-build, construction-phase, or contractor coordination experience is valued.


Salary Range: $103,000-$173,000 based on location and experience
