Full Job Description

Title: Transportation Planning Specialist

Location: This full-time position must reside within a one-hour commuting radius of Albany, New York for a hybrid schedule (2 days or more at an office location and the remainder work-from-home).You will also travel within the New York Capital Region for meetings and events. Events may happen during the daytime or occasional evening and/or weekend hours. 

Please Note: Employment for this position is contingent upon contract-related approvals. Candidates selected for hire should anticipate a potential start date in the September–November 2026 timeframe.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support transportation planning, data analysis, and program evaluation projects.
  • Conduct research and develop technical reports, guidebooks, and planning documents.
  • Develop training / outreach materials and other products that help agencies implement programs and build capacity.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships and coordinate engagement activities.
  • Facilitate or support meetings and workshops; prepare materials that communicate technical findings to non-technical audiences.
  • Provide project management support, including tracking project schedules, deliverables, etc.

This position requires experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Community engagement experience with stakeholders and community-based organizations.
  • Transportation planning and programs relating to public transportation, microtransit, and micromobility.
  • Hosting or supporting presentations, events, and meetings with clients or stakeholders.
  • Utilizing data, technological tools, training workshops, and innovative techniques to promote participation in programs.
  • Collaborate with a project team and clients to achieve established goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Urban and/or Regional Planning, Transportation Planning, Environmental Studies, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of relevant professional experience in transportation, land use, or community-facing planning work. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with transportation planning concepts, such as multimodal planning, transit planning, active transportation, transportation demand management (TDM), or transportation systems management and operations (TSMO).
  • Experience supporting the launch or deployment of operational programs, products, and services that reduce single occupancy vehicle (SOV) commuting and vehicle miles of travel (VMT).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical material to varied audiences.
  • Proficiency in GIS, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Willing to learn how to use new software and digital applications.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:

$61,232.00 - $104,094.00
