Transportation Manager
We\'re hiring a Transportation Manager to lead the department into its next chapter. We want someone who will take ownership, raise the bar on safety and performance, and build a department that runs better than it does today. You\'ll work directly with company leadership and lead a small dispatch team. You\'ll have real authority to change how things are done, and experienced team members to help you get up to speed. If you\'re a strong supervisor in trucking or logistics who\'s ready for a role where your ideas get implemented, this is it.
What you\'ll own
• Leading the department. Set clear roles and expectations, train and coach your team, and hold the department accountable, starting with yourself.
• Improving the operation. Find what\'s slow, costly or unreliable, bring a plan to fix it, and see it through. You don\'t wait to be told.
• Safety and compliance. Strengthen our safety culture and practices. Own DOT compliance, equipment inspections, out-of-service follow-up and carrier records.
• Carriers and cost. Manage relationships with trucking companies and owner-operators, negotiate and monitor rates, and track cost per load so leadership has real numbers to make decisions with.
• Daily operations. This is a hands-on role. You\'ll be in the operation coordinating trucks, drop boxes, railcars and export container moves, working with Maintenance on equipment, and serving as the go-to person when something goes wrong.
What success looks like in your first year
• Roles and communication within the department are clearly defined, and nothing falls through the cracks.
• Response times are tracked and improving.
• Transportation costs are tracked and reported, and you\'ve found real savings.
• Safety performance has improved, building on our existing program.
• Carrier agreements, insurance and rates are current and reviewed.
• At least a few meaningful process improvements are in place that came from you.
What you bring
• 5+ years in transportation, trucking, logistics or fleet operations, including at least 2 years supervising people
• Working knowledge of DOT requirements: hours of service, driver files, inspections, drug and alcohol testing
• A track record of improving something, such as a process, a cost or a team, not just maintaining it
• Comfort holding people accountable and having direct conversations
• Strong Excel skills and comfort working with numbers
• Bonus: experience with rail, intermodal, containers or export shipping, or in the metal recycling industry
Why Pacific Recycling
• A leadership role with direct access to decision-makers, and less bureaucracy
• Varied freight: truck and rail shipments, plus export containers to the port
• A company that\'s investing in improvement and wants your ideas
• Medical, dental and vision insurance
• 401(k)
• 2 weeks of PTO to start, plus 8 paid holidays
