  • Senior Transmission Design Analyst: $97,580 - $126,795
  • Senior Transmission Design Analyst II: $112,190 - $141,400
  • Lead Transmission Design Analyst: $112,240 - $145,810

Overview

The Transmission Design Analyst plays a key role in shaping and analyzing transmission market design within SPP. The role is responsible for evaluating current transmission market structures, analyzing proposed changes, and supporting SPP Working Groups through facilitation and in-depth market analysis. This position collaborates with Operations, Legal, Regulatory, Settlements, Training, Engineering, Planning, and Markets teams to ensure alignment across policies, products, processes, and software.

The role also engages with market participants, transmission owners, vendors, FERC, and other RTOs/ISOs to influence transmission market policy and design. Responsibilities include facilitating discussions and presenting market design changes to stakeholder committees and groups.

Core Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze current transmission market design, identifying market weaknesses and evaluating impacts of proposed modifications
  • Design complex solutions to new or changing transmission products, including settlement calculations and functional documentation
  • Provide support and technical expertise to Working Groups and committees, such as the Transmission Working Group and Market Working Group
  • Collaborate internally across departments to maintain alignment with transmission market design principles
  • Conduct transmission market analysis to identify and resolve issues
  • Develop and maintain transmission market metrics, create reports, and prepare educational materials
  • Research transmission market designs across other RTOs/ISOs
  • Facilitate discussions, document studies, and present findings
  • Support FERC filings through data preparation and assistance with transmittal materials

Additional Lead-Level Responsibilities

  • Maintain transmission product and settlement simulation platforms
  • Recommend transmission market design changes and support initiatives through the SPP stakeholder process
  • Train and mentor Transmission Design Analysts

Required Qualifications

Senior Transmission Design Analyst

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, mathematics, business, or related field
  • Five (5) years of job-related experience

Senior Transmission Design Analyst II

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, mathematics, business, or related field
  • Eight (8) years of job-related experience, including RTO transmission market support, design, or implementation

Lead Transmission Design Analyst

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, mathematics, business, or related field
  • Ten (10) years of job-related experience, including RTO transmission market support, design, or implementation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in economics, math, business, or related field
  • Experience in utility industry, utility operations, RTO/ISO operations, or energy trading
  • Experience with RTO/ISO market formulations and optimization techniques
  • Experience with prototyping market formulation changes or software used to study formulation changes
  • Experience in team leadership
  • Experience with data manipulation and analysis of large datasets
