Full Job Description
Job Purpose

As Trade Compliance Manager US, you support the execution of export controls, sanctions, and customs compliance activities in the United States under the supervision of the Regional Trade Compliance Manager North America.

Your primary focus is on US-specific regulatory requirements. You monitor local legislation and regulatory developments, assess their impact on Umicore's activities in the US, and support their correct implementation within the region.

You work in close coordination with the Regional Trade Compliance Manager and global Export Control & Sanctions and Customs Compliance teams. You are involved in business-related topics through the EC&S Business Partners, who act as the main interface to the Business Units.

The role also includes customs compliance from a US perspective, focusing on local requirements and coordination with the Global Customs team.

You are based in Raleigh, NC and report to the Regional Trade Compliance Manager North America.

Work structure is Hybrid, 3 days in the office per week.

Your Key Accountabilities

  • Delivers expert work in Trade Compliance with high quality and timeliness, applying best practices and standards.
  • Owns complex tasks in trade compliance, regulatory compliance, producing accurate outputs and identifying risks or anomalies proactively.
  • Analyzes problems, recommends options, and implements improvements in methods, tools, or data flows.
  • Collaborates with adjacent teams and stakeholders, communicating insights and recommendations clearly.
  • Collaborates cross-functionally to deliver high-quality outcomes and knowledge sharing.
  • Mentors less experienced colleagues, reviewing deliverables and elevating team standards.
  • Support the Regional Trade Compliance Manager in implementing export controls, sanctions, and customs compliance requirements in the US
  • Monitor US regulatory and legislative developments in export controls, sanctions, and customs
  • Assess the impact of these developments on Umicore's US activities and support their translation into practical requirements
  • Provide input and guidance on US-specific regulatory aspects upon request from EC&S Business Partners or the Regional Trade Compliance Manager
  • Support EC&S Business Partners with local regulatory expertise in complex or escalated cases
  • Handle interactions with US authorities where required, including support for license applications, requests, and regulatory communication
  • Support the preparation and coordination of submissions to authorities, including export licenses and regulatory filings
  • Support customs compliance in the US by ensuring alignment with US regulations and global standards
  • Act as local reference for customs-related requirements, including coordination with customs brokers and local stakeholders
  • Coordinate with the Global Customs team on topics requiring central input such as classification, valuation, and origin
  • Support resolution of customs-related issues, including documentation and regulatory interpretation at local level
  • Support audits and inspections involving US authorities, including preparation of documentation and follow-up actions
  • Ensure proper recordkeeping in line with regulatory and internal requirements
  • Contribute to awareness and understanding of US-specific trade compliance requirements within the region


Who we are looking for

  • 5 years of experience in trade compliance, including export controls, sanctions, and customs
  • Good knowledge of US export control and sanctions regulations such as EAR and OFAC, with solid understanding of US customs requirements
  • Experience in a multinational corporate environment, ideally in industrial or technical sectors
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Law, International Trade, Business, Supply Chain, or a related field
