This newly created role is a unique opportunity to help establish our metal forming capability from the ground up. The Tooling / Stamping Engineer will provide hands-on technical leadership for press-formed sheet metal processes, tooling design and qualification, equipment implementation, and the transition of new parts and processes into production. Whether you aspire to be a technical expert or a future leader, this role will provide meaningful opportunities for growth and development.
Primary Planning and Start-Up Responsibilities- Provide technical expertise for metal forming processes, tooling, presses, automation, and related equipment during facility and production start-up.
- Review component designs and provide practical design-for-manufacturing input for press-formed sheet metal parts.
- Develop tooling concepts and specifications, prepare request-for-quote packages, and partner with external tooling suppliers through design, build, tryout, and validation.
- Estimate tooling costs and lead times to support project planning, capital budgets, and new product development schedules.
- Lead the specification, procurement, installation, qualification, and launch of stamping dies, press cells, and related equipment.
- Plan and manage multiple tooling projects while clearly communicating priorities, risks, timing, and decisions to cross-functional partners.
- Develop process documentation, tooling standards, control plans, work instructions, maintenance requirements, and production handoff criteria.
- Support material selection and specifications in partnership with design engineering, quality, manufacturing, and supply chain.
- Build and maintain a strong network of tooling suppliers and technical resources.
Primary Ongoing Production Responsibilities- Serve as a hands-on technical resource for stamping defects, tooling issues, press performance, dimensional variation, and part-quality concerns.
- Partner with operators, technicians, team leaders, production engineers, quality, maintenance, and suppliers to identify root causes and implement lasting corrective actions.
- Improve die performance, process capability, uptime, throughput, safety, quality, and cost through disciplined problem solving and continuous improvement.
- Establish and maintain process monitoring and control methods for critical metal forming operations.
- Support tooling preventive maintenance strategies, spare-part planning, die repair priorities, and long-term tooling reliability.
- Evaluate and recommend tooling, equipment, sensing, automation, and process improvements that strengthen production performance.
- Coach and develop production and technical team members by sharing metal forming knowledge and building problem-solving capability.
- Maintain accurate tooling, process, qualification, and change-control documentation.
