Our Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Thermal Sciences Associate for our Thermal Sciences Practice in Natick, MA. In this role, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, applying fundamental engineering and scientific principles to real-world problems involving failure analysis, risk mitigation, and product development.

You will be responsible for
  • Applying mechanical engineering fundamentals to a broad range of technical problems and applications.
  • Planning, designing, and executing experimental test programs, including the construction of experimental apparatus, instrumentation, data acquisition, and data analysis.
  • Developing and using numerical and analytical models of physical phenomena.
  • Conducting risk assessments, fieldwork, and inspections, including data gathering and documentation.
  • Researching published literature and reviewing and synthesizing documents, data, and other technical information.
  • Preparing and communicating proposals, presentations, and technical reports to clients and other technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Managing projects and multidisciplinary project teams while maintaining quality and efficiency under deadlines.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to quality management in technical work and project delivery.
  • Identifying opportunities to expand current projects and developing new consulting engagements.
  • Pursuing continued professional development through publications, technical conferences, professional licensure, and certifications.
You will have the following skills and qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; No immigration sponsorship or processing required.
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of combustion, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and electrochemistry with a strong interest in energy applications.
  • Outstanding ability to apply fundamental engineering concepts to new and varied problems within and outside direct areas of specialization.
  • Hands-on experience designing and executing experimental programs, including experimental design, apparatus construction, instrumentation, data acquisition, and data analysis.
  • Strong quantitative skills, including mathematical modeling, optimization, and numerical analysis.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment.
  • Self-motivation, intellectual curiosity, and a demonstrated commitment to professional development through peer-reviewed publications, technical conference presentations, professional engineering licensure, or other professional certifications.

Compensation

Our consultants are rewarded for their technical and business contributions and have an opportunity to plan for future success and career growth. Exponent's total compensation plan is consistent with its expectations of the quality and quantity of work performed and with the professional standards set by Exponent. At the Associate and Senior Associate level, total compensation includes base salary, bi-weekly bonuses for high-intensity efforts, annual bonus and 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.

The base salary range for this position is dependent on experience and capabilities which will be assessed during the interview process.
