Job Title: Sr Telecommunications Designer - Data Center Campus Planning
Location: US-TN-Nashville

Responsibilities:
The Telecommunications Designer - Data Center is responsible for the design, documentation, and coordination of telecommunications and structured cabling infrastructure supporting data center facilities. This position ensures systems are reliable, scalable, code-compliant, and aligned with owner standards and availability objectives. The role requires close coordination with multidisciplinary design teams and construction stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Design telecommunications and low-voltage infrastructure supporting data center environments, including single-path distribution with redundant critical components.
  • Prepare complete design and construction documentation, including:
    • Telecommunications floor plans
    • Equipment room layouts and facility rack elevations
    • Pathway layouts (conduit and cable tray)
    • Equipment and cable schedules
  • Develop structured cabling designs utilizing fiber optic and copper cabling systems (including high-density and MPO solutions where applicable).
  • Plan and document data center functional spaces, including:
    • Main Distribution Areas (MDA)
    • Horizontal Distribution Areas (HDA)
    • Equipment Distribution Areas (EDA)
    • Telecommunications Rooms (TRs)
  • Coordinate telecommunications systems with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and IT stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and guidelines, including TIA, BICSI, NEC, and local AHJ requirements.
  • Support Schematic Design (SD), Design Development (DD), Construction Documents (CD), bidding, and construction administration phases.
  • Respond to RFIs and review contractor submittals and shop drawings for compliance with design intent.
  • Participate in closeout documentation.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate documentation in accordance with internal QA/QC standards.
Systems and Technologies:
  • Structured cabling systems (fiber optic and copper)
  • Data center cable management and pathway infrastructure
  • Grounding and bonding for telecommunications systems
  • Technology racks, cabinets, and enclosures
  • Carrier entrance facilities and demarcation points
  • Support infrastructure for LAN, WAN, ISP, NOCs and enterprise IT networks
Physical and Work Environment Requirements:
  • Office-based design environment with periodic site visits.
  • Ability to review construction areas, including equipment rooms and pathways.
  • Occasional travel may be required to project sites.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Engineering (ABET Accredited), Information Technology, Telecommunications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum fifteen (15) years experience with SSOE as a Designer or nineteen (19) years experience with former employer(s). Minimum 3-5 years of telecommunications design experience, with demonstrated exposure to data center projects.
  • Working knowledge of data center concepts and availability requirements.
  • Ability to prepare and manage schedules, cable matrices, and coordination documents.
  • BICSI certifications : RCDD, DCDC
  • Strong understanding of applicable standards, including:
    • TIA-942, TIA-568, TIA-569, TIA-606, TIA-607
    • BICSI TDMM
    • NFPA 70 (NEC)
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with mission-critical or colocation data center projects.
  • Experience supporting construction administration and commissioning.
  • Knowledge of owner-specific data center design standards.
