Context & EnvironmentTotalEnergies Gas & Power Trading (TGP) and its affiliates are experiencing rapid growth as they support the company's transition toward a power-focused energy portfolio. A key driver of this expansion is the acquisition of a diverse range of energy assets, including renewable generation such as wind and solar, battery storage, and combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plants. For TGP, this growth translates into significantly higher trading volumes, an expanded geographic footprint, and an increased need for process automation, all of which place growing demands on IT capabilities and infrastructure.
ActivitiesIn this role, you will serve as the Solution Architect for Gas & Power Trading applications and act as a cross-functional technology advisor across multiple systems and teams. You will lead the design and integration of solutions that enable new trading activities, business initiatives, and market expansion while ensuring alignment with business objectives and enterprise technology standards.
You will own end-to-end solution architecture across the gas and power trading landscape, encompassing both in-house developed solutions and third-party vendor applications. As the subject matter expert for solution design, you will ensure that technical and functional architectures adhere to established methodologies, comply with regulatory and corporate requirements, and remain scalable to support future business growth.
Key Responsibilities:Solution Architecture & Business Enablement- Design and deliver technology solutions to support new business activities, including congestion trading, complex tolling agreements, market expansion initiatives, and other trading products.
- Gather, analyze, and document business and functional requirements.
- Develop and present architectural designs, process flows, and system integration models to stakeholders for review and validation.
- Challenge and simplify unnecessary system complexity while ensuring business objectives are achieved.
- Drive cross-functional alignment and take ownership of architectural decisions and solution outcomes.
Systems Integration & Technology Leadership- Collaborate closely with adjacent technology teams to design optimal integrations between applications while considering current system capabilities and constraints.
- Serve as a trusted advisor on technology strategy, architecture, and application design across the trading ecosystem.
- Evaluate and recommend technology solutions that align with enterprise architecture principles and business objectives.
- Identify opportunities to leverage global technology initiatives and standards to increase operational efficiency and reduce duplication.
Governance, Risk & Compliance- Ensure adherence to local and global IT standards related to cybersecurity, architecture, governance, scalability, and operational resilience.
- Proactively identify, communicate, and escalate technical risks, dependencies, and delivery challenges to management.
- Ensure all development and technology activities comply with legal, regulatory, and audit requirements, including SOX, FERC, NERC, and other applicable standards.
- Collaborate with Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, and Project teams to ensure compliance with Change Advisory Team (CAT) processes and other corporate governance requirements.
Project Delivery & Transition to Operations- Support project planning activities, including milestone definition, effort estimation, and timeline forecasting based on technical and functional complexity.
- Define go/no-go criteria, testing strategies, regression testing plans, cutover approaches, and contingency plans to ensure operational stability during deployments.
- Establish project transition frameworks and operational readiness documentation.
- Partner with Project Managers to define RACI matrices, service-level agreements (SLAs), support models, and ownership structures for post-implementation support.
- Take ownership of the transition-to-run process, ensuring support teams clearly understand their responsibilities and operational procedures.
Coaching & Knowledge Sharing- Mentor and coach team members on system architecture, trading domain knowledge, and technology best practices.
- Promote collaboration, architectural consistency, and continuous improvement across the broader technology organization.
Accountabilities:Ensure the effective architecture, integration, and governance of energy management and trading IT systems, with a strong focus on compliance, security, scalability, and alignment with global standards. Lead solution design initiatives, provide technical guidance to delivery teams, and advise on technology strategy and solution selection while supporting major transformation programs across the power and gas trading landscape. Contribute to project delivery and ensure all developments comply with applicable regulatory, legal, audit, and corporate governance requirements.
Candidate Profile- 10+ years of experience working within energy trading organizations, with extensive exposure to major trading platforms and processes, including ETRMs, bid-to-bill systems, forecasting solutions, physical power dispatch, and related trading applications.
- Strong understanding of software development methodologies, databases and data lakes, system integrations, cybersecurity, and other technical disciplines required to support complex trading technology landscapes.
- Deep expertise in the U.S. power markets, with subject matter knowledge across power trading, market risk, scheduling, settlements, and energy management systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of IT architecture, software development, and systems integration, complemented by experience in project delivery, enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF), and modern software development methodologies.
- Experience with cloud platforms and integration technologies, particularly AWS, is highly desirable, as is exposure to contract management and procurement processes.
- Demonstrated ability to define and communicate a strategic technology vision, design complex enterprise solutions, and provide mentorship to architects, engineers, and project teams.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
- Accountable, proactive, and collaborative, with a proven ability to build strong relationships and foster a positive, high-performing team culture.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
