Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients and rooms for special procedures, ensuring accurate data entry into Epic.
  • Position patients correctly on the procedure table and obtain necessary scout films.
  • Set exposure factors and imaging equipment to capture high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Assist interventional radiologists during procedures, ensuring equipment is sterile and monitored.
  • Monitor and adjust exposure factors and fluoro time during procedures while in the control room.
  • Capture, label, and process digital images for radiologist interpretation.
  • Maintain records of all films, fluoro times, and injections accurately.
  • Train associates and students on special procedures and maintain cleanliness in the work area.

Under the direction of radiologist, performs Special Procedure examinations at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgement, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for imaging diagnosis and image guided treatment. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Patient and Room Preparation: This task includes a) entering patient data into Epic and other appropriate computer systems as necessary. b) Placing the patient on the procedure table in the correct position for the procedure to be performed. c) Obtain appropriate scout film for procedure. d) Appropriate positioning of monitors, foot switches, table controls and lighting for procedure to be performed.
Obtain cut film and digital images: This task includes the proper setting of exposures factors and imaging equipment to obtain high quality images for diagnosis by the radiologist.
Direct involvement during procedure: This task involves a) the assistance at the side of the interventional radiologist handling sterile equipment as needed. b) Constant attention to the progression of the procedure while in the control room, monitoring exposure factors, fluoro time, etc. c) Involved with operating injector when necessary. Photographing and processing of images: This task includes photographing and labeling digital images, processing and displaying final images on viewing machines for radiologist interpretation.
Maintain all necessary records of films, fluoro time, injections, etc.
Observe all rules and regulations regarding radiation safety for patients and staff.
Train other associates and students in special procedures.
Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of assigned area.
Perform duties of a 4T technologist and other related tasks as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma/GED
Satisfactory completion of a formal radiologic technology training in and meets the requirements for certification by the ARRT

ARRT certification
Valid Radiologic Technologist license with Injection in the State of New York

Knowledge of Special Procedure/Angiographic Systems
Knowledge of Radiographic exposure equipment and film processor
Knowledge of Epic tracking equipment and other computer data base managers
