The Opportunity:
CACI is seeking a Technical Writer/Editor to further develop theirtechnical writing and editing skills tosupport contracted Government taskings.
The ideal candidate will be able to take roughly written content on an unfamiliar subject that is not correctly formatted or styled, has spelling errors, knowledge gaps, inconsistent terminology, etc., and:
- Reorganize the content to flow logically in the correct sequence using consistent terminology to improve readability and understanding.
- Correct all errors in spelling, syntax, grammar, and voice.
- Reformat to follow a consistent layout of headers, body text, bullets, and numbered lists.
- Rewrite the text to be direct, use active voice, and follow an internal style guide. The text should be written at the reading level of a high school student.
- Identify knowledge gaps, logic errors, missing/conflicting steps, or incorrect assumptions, and flag them for the designated subject matter expert to review.
- Create a basic graphic and text layout following the team's internal style guide and using the approved templates. This will require flexibility and professional judgement, e.g., no two documents are 100% alike and the style guide does not have an answer for every scenario.
Work site will fluctuate between the customer site, CACI office, and home site (with prior arrangements). Must be within commuting distance of one of these public Naval Shipyards:
- Norfolk Naval Shipyard
- Portsmouth Naval Shipyard
- Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility
- Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility
Responsibilities:
- Produce, proofread, edit, format, layout, and design a wide variety of customer products, e.g., workbooks, manuals, training materials, technical reports, performance reports, presentations, white papers, slide decks, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Gather information and requirements, interview and collaborate with stakeholders and subject matter experts, conduct research, then express technical information in written form that is accurately captured and comprehensible to the intended audience of readers.
- Provide briefings, maintain a progress tracker, and regularly report on work progress. Lead and facilitate work product development/revision cycle meetings to gather suggestions, review content, and resolve issues. Implement feedback and make necessary changes.
- Maintain all technical and non-technical files associated with the production and revision of work products. Manage updates, version control, and revisions to the knowledge management repository (or internal documentation library).
- Take ownership of assignments; manage customer communications and ensure all products are produced with excellent quality, accuracy, efficiency, and within deadlines.
- May be assigned overflow Graphic Designer work responsibilities, as needed.
- Support the execution of contract requirements, which may include submission of supporting data and metrics and timely completion of written reports to stakeholders, customers, and CACI leadership.
Other duties may be assigned in support of contract taskings and mission success.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active DOD Secret security clearance.
- Bachelor27s degree. In lieu of the degree requirement, candidates with minimum 5 years of directly applicable work experience may be considered for this position.
- Minimum 3 years of professional related work experience.
- Strong attention to detail and expert-level writing, editing, formatting, and proofreading skills. This work requires careful reading of raw text, editing that text to a specific standard and style guide, and then consistently and accurately formatting the text and images in Microsoft 365 apps IAW an internal style guide with minimal supervision.
- Experience in gathering project requirements and interviewing stakeholders and subject matter experts.
- Strong proficiency in concisely and coherently organizing and organizing and presenting information.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with others to accurately and efficiently define project requirements.
- Strong customer service orientation and written/verbal communication skills with the ability to respectfully engage internal and external customers at all levels in a manner that achieves successful outcomes.
- Outstanding organizational skills to efficiently manage competing priorities, multiple concurrent taskings, and firm deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, with strong proficiency in Word and PowerPoint.
Desired:
- Work experience with the Naval Maintenance Community, United States Navy, or the Department of Defense. Navy mechanic/electrician experience, or a background in shipboard/shipyard maintenance, will be especially helpful.
- Experience with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or InDesign.
- Certified Technical Writer (CTW).
- Experience with iterative documentation processes.

The proposed salary range for this position is:
$61,600-$129,300
